Agree Matulino and ET are very undervalued for their defensive work. We had guys like Sue who just yesterday was lazy at A defence and let in a length of the field try from marker to the Eels.

A lot of people just look at stats but they don’t point the key tackles made or missed, decoy runs, impact of tackles and hit ups and the speed of the play the ball. All areas of the game are important not just hit ups and tackles

The forwards have been real solid over the last two weeks, but yet to be tested by some of the more highly rated packs. So far so good, but haven't forgotten our last meeting with Souths. Great intensity atm so I hope it continues. Maguire gas done a good job in getting them season ready and it shows.

Manly's middle third of Fonua-Blake, Koroisau, Tapau and Trbojevic is not shabby, in fact, I think it's very good. And you should go back and read forum comments on the Warriors pack after the trial, especially the bits about how they kept collapsing our middle.

We have been tested by two decent packs, and we got over the top of them.

I haven’t forgotten our first meeting with Souths either.

Yeah, and especially when one was a few games or so before the news of the turncoat coach came out, whilst the other was when he was still trying to get to the foot of the mountains.

Exactly. Got me stuffed when people are watching, and particularly on TV when they are in shot so much of the time, that they fail to see the extent of involvement, along with the quality and contribution of it towards a win.

A good example was the Sue bandwagon last year. Sure he had a few good charges, but is a little poor at his other requirements as a marker or A defender.

Looking at those stats it seems clear to me that Maguire is giving certain players certain jobs. Those with low hit ups/ metres made have higher tackle counts and vice versa. It's good to see a coach that is giving players simple and clear instructions, with the benefit being clearly seen on the field.

Big test this week against the Dogs mentally. We were expected to come out and wallop them last year and they made us look like right mugs. I feel like the side is different and harder drilled under Madge this year, but this game is still making me feel a little nervous.

Didnt say they werent decent but dont think they set the benchmark as far as forward packs go that is all. Two good performances by our forwards but keeping my feet firmly planted at this stage, thats all.

How does this explain him..

A. Twal 32 tackles, 16 runs, 151 metres …:flushed:

Each to their own.
Some are impressed by decoy runs and link plays whilst others are impressed by 30 tackles and 100m. Im the latter.
…and I get the stats argument. A lot of people rated Woods whilst all I saw was a bludger who made everyone else do the hard work, then capitalised.

Twal is young and a machine. Madge is simply giving more minutes to his best performers. Resting the older blokes like Packer and Mats hopefully to be fresh for big games at the end of the year. Also love the mix of old heads and young bulls especially with Packer, Aloai, Mikalele off the bench.

We haven’t had a coach of this level since Sheens. We are actually playing with a game plan and strategy.

Both in the wet!!

This cannot be understated, we have been able to compress our line and therefore control the middle, our D has been great I'm not denying that but let's judge the defence once we play a decent pack on a dry track.

I guess I'm a glass half-full kind of guy.

But, it was not just our D that was good. You overlook our attack. We dominated them running the ball as well - against their compressed defence.
.
I recognise that a sample of two games is too few to draw any firm conclusions, but this is the first time I can recall since, say, 2010-11, that I have seen us dominate good packs.

I'm not counting my chickens yet, but the signs are promsing.

I don't disagree with you but we also looked good at times in 2014\. The key for us is an aggressive bench with 3 or 4 big bodies. We always seem to have a good pack of workers and the impact off the bench really lifts our game.
