Player development - compared to other clubs

Just looking at the 2011 Season Guide and was surprised at how few of our top 25 have actually played for other NRL clubs. Only 6 of our top 25 (Brown, Daniella, Galloway, Payten, McKinnon, Tuquiri). ie. 19 of our top 25 have only played NRL (if they've played at all) for one club: us.
(7 with Utai but he's not top 25 & Fulton, Ellis and Flanagan have played Superleague.)

Lowest number of any club. Very impressive.

Other clubs:
Warriors: 10
Rorters: 10
Bunnies: 8
Dragons: 11
Panthers: 15
Eels: 10
Cows: 15
Knights: 15
Storm: 12
Manly: 11
Titans: 19
Sharks: 13
Dogs: 21!
Raiders: 9
Broncos: 7

That is very interesting Softlaw. Apart from the great Tigers statistic there are some ugly numbers there for clubs with huge junior catchments that should be doing a lot better than they are.

i think we have to cut a few teams some slack with this Titans have only been in comp 4 years some of the areas with smaller populations also Cowboys , Newcastle

bit surprised with penrith they have a massive junior base and still only 10 one club teams

also shows the is LOYALTY at the tigers shown by both players and officials

I brought this up to a bulldogs supporter on another forum. Got so defensive and agro about it.

BRED NOT BOUGHT :roll

Our numbers are no accident. People have to realise the hard work put in by guys like Grant Jones, Tim Sheens and their respective coaching staff, as well as, the coaching staff of both Balmain and West SG Ball and Harold Matthews.

This is exactly why I have for a number of years called for the NRL to give clubs like us concessions with the salary cap for all the work we have put in with our juniors. The sad thing is, eventually, some will have to leave because of the cap and go to teams like the Panthers who obviously dont care about their juniors. Why should a team like the Panthers be rewarded for our hard work?

Every club has the bush as an open slather. There's a massive nursery there. What's stopping the Roosters from setting up a scout in Dubbo?

The only club with better junior development than us in my opinion is the Dragons (apart from Boyd, Soward and Weyman, all their key players are one club players).

I think it's a bit disingenuous to claim Ellis and Flanagan as 1 club players. They clearly came from other clubs and were signed on. No way you can claim Ellis in particular - he had already played for Great Britain when he joined us. Fulton probably a different kettle of fish given the primary reason for leaving was to alleviate salary cap pressure.

Still, the numbers are certainly something to be proud of.

How many actual juniors do we have playing?? are you a junior if you get bought from another area to play Harold Matthews, SG Ball or 20's?

Excellent post…these guy know each others games Gibbs and Fulton have been playing together since pre 2002......

LOYALTY...Wests Tigers have it in spades...

I think the Knights and Pamfers numbers are alarming given they have a wealth of talent and such large nurseries.
