Years ago there was a common term, "colourful racing identity", and it referred to those who were known, or suspected, of being corrupt or criminal in their involvement in the the racing industry. Apart from a few notorious ones, I was never sure who they actually were.

Sadly, I don't think it would be hard to come up with a list of "colourful rugby league identities", and Blake Ferguson would surely be on it.

Others??

Would be interesting to put a team together of the "bad boys" of NRL - i think the tigers would contribute a fair few of them.

Matt Seers, John Hopoate, Craig Field, Tim Simona, Ryan Tandy, John Elias ( didn't play for wests Tigers but played for both Wests and Balmain), Matt Lodge, Russell Packer - i'm sure there are more that would have run around with the tigers.

NRL player Zane Musgrove has landed himself back in hot water after allegedly being caught driving while his licence was suspended.
Musgrove, 25, will face Waverley Local Court next week after being charged by police over the incident in Maroubra, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, late last year.

In a statement NSW Police said it would be alleged Musgrove came to attention after officers noticed him driving his BMW at night without lights on.

“About 9.15pm on Friday, November 26 2021, officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were patrolling Maroubra Road at the intersection of Anzac Parade, Maroubra, when they stopped a BMW travelling without lights on,” police said in a statement.

“Police spoke to the 25-year-old male driver, before further checks revealed the man’s driver’s licence was expired and suspended.

“The man was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for drive motor vehicle while licence suspended.”

A spokesman for the Wests Tigers told The Daily Telegraph Musgrove had notified the club of the incident and confirmed the NRL Integrity Unit was also aware.

The prop signed a long term deal with the Tigers in 2019 but has endured two injury interrupted seasons, playing just 11 games across 2020 and 2021.

Musgrove made headlines early last year after being arrested by police outside the Coogee Bay Hotel.

It came after he missed the entire 2019 season after being suspended by the NRL over an incident, again at the Coogee Bay Hotel, in which it was alleged he indecently assaulted a woman known to him.

While initially found guilty and handed a 12-month good behaviour bond, the decision was overturned on appeal.

In 2018, when on the books at South Sydney, Musgrove was convicted and fined on charges of destroying or damaging property after pulling a gate of its hinges at his partner’s friend’s home.

**Wests Tigers NRL star Zane Musgrove engulfed in new scandal**

A scandal-plagued NRL star has fessed up to driving while his licence was suspended despite telling police he never knew he was banned from getting behind the wheel.

Wests Tigers prop Zane Musgrove was caught driving a black BMW at a busy intersection in the Sydney beachside suburb of Maroubra about 9.15pm on November 26 last year. In court documents police said the P-plater’s vehicle attracted their attention because its lights were not turned on. After speaking with the 25-year-old a short time later, police discovered his licence had been suspended on September 14 for three months. The suspension came after Musgrove was caught on camera doing less than 10km/h over the speed limit in March and June 2021.

When police undertook further checks, they discovered Musgrove’s licence expired four days before he was caught driving the BMW without lights on. In an interview with police, court documents state Musgrove confessed to knowing his licence had expired but said he had no idea why his licence would be suspended.
Another check by police revealed Musgrove had been stopped by police on November 1, 2021 due to the manner in which he was driving around Bondi.
Police said he was issued with a suspension advice on that date because he claimed he was also unaware then that his licence had been suspended back in September.

Musgrove, who played for the Maori All Stars side last year, was charged with one count of driving while his licence was suspended. He did not appear in Waverley Local Court on Wednesday; however, a legal representative emailed the court and entered a guilty plea on Musgrove’s behalf.

The incident follows a series of scandals that have plagued Musgrove in recent years. In January 2021 he was arrested by police outside Sydney’s Coogee Bay Hotel and handed a $550 fine for allegedly refusing to move on from the premises. In 2018, Musgrave was charged with the indecent assault of a woman known to him over a separate incident at the same pub.
Initially found guilty and handed a 12-month good behaviour bond, Musgrove was later cleared of any wrongdoing after he successfully appealed the guilty verdict. After pulling a gate off its hinges at his partner’s friend’s home in 2018, the former South Sydney Rabbitohs player received a fine and conviction which was overturned on appeal, with a conditional release order imposed instead.

Despite difficulties off the field and a lack of time on it, Musgrove signed a lucrative new three-year contract with the Tigers in 2020.

After accepting Musgrove’s guilty plea for the driving charge, magistrate Jacqueline Milledge set February 22 as the date for sentencing.

He's like Todd Carney lite, just never seems to learn. One of my favourite words: recidivist.

The jury is out on this one.
At least the dumb$#$e admitted to it.
Come on Zane, you really haven't showed much intellect have you?
Repeatedly carrying on basically in the same neighbourhood with flashing neon signs pointing at you saying, 'over here, here I am, I'm breaking the law, come and get me, I've been in trouble before and I'm doing it again'
I've been one those faithful looking forward to a big year
from Zane but my enthusiasm is waning.
I hope the WT brain trust can gauge what's happening in this guys head and determine if he's woken up to himself and is committed in producing some good form.

Very careless sort of person/player. Would expect so much better from him.

Zane is a serial dill. Who keeps doing dumb things. Sadly I don’t things are ever going to change. We can’t tear his contract up but I hope Sheens gives him a massive wake up call.

Zane Musgrove needs to stop frequenting that Coogee/Bondi area where all these brain dead actions seem to be occurring.

If that is the area in which he lives, he needs to move immediately.

Speaking of dills, I heard that Craig Field was released from prison today after serving 8 years for man slaughter.

Bondi is a huge Maori area,he may have family there...
That still doesnt afford him the right to do stupid things or bring the WTs to disrepute by his actions...

Musgrove had his court appearance at Waverley today. Got off with a $1,200 fine and had his licence suspended for a further 3 months.
