Player fire sale just weeks away

Interesting article by Adrian Prozenko in the SMH, about some clubs hitting the phones to other clubs trying to garner support to stop the $9.2mill salary cap coming into effect next year.
So far they haven't got enough clubs on board, they need 5 clubs to stop the agreement going ahead.
Wonder who the clubs are trying to stop the cap agreement? Bulldogs, Roosters, Penrith & ?
Also story that the Dogs are shopping players around without any takers.

Raiders are reported to be under the squeeze.

Paul Gallen said on WWOS today that the Broncos hadn't registered Jack Bird's contract yet, sounds like they might have a few problems too.

See Greg Eastwood is on $850K next year on a back ended contract, been told that he will play reggies next year if he doesn't leave.

Bronco's are like the roosters, they will fit who they want to keep, and lose a token reggie or two, it sucks and the NRL put their head in the sand

Perhaps the NRL are working behind the scenes but this type of incident being played out is a bad look especially in light of Foran and Woods being signed from lesser clubs when the Bulldogs were in no position to sign them.

There are huge challenges in moving on elite players over developing players. The elite players tend to decide there own futures.

The real winners from a fire sale could be players stuck in a rut or behind other players. Players like JJ Felise could end up in a swap deal and find himself at Melbourne, and we might end up with a Kenny Bromwich or Tim Glasby.

Win win really. JJ would go great in that type of structure and we could use the energy of a Glasby.

Make it happen Pascoe!

Nathan Brown on abc grandstand basically said the same thing - he knows plenty of clubs are over and knights are sitting and waiting to move. Similar to us i would say.

Eastwood should just say sorry I'm not leaving. Clubs shouldn't be able to say see owe you a heap of money but don't need you anymore so leave now. Clubs and players need to be more accountable to the contracts they sign

Good these back ended deals are a club trying to buy a premiership and when it doesn't come off they have to pay the price for their gamble by having a lot of players on overs at the club

Love Nathan Brown. He just tells it like it is and makes the NRL squirm with his truths.
On the flipside it is extremely interesting how the normal bigmouth coaches who like to throw their 2 cents worth into every debate: Bennett, Robinson, Stuart, Bellamy and Hasler are very quiet indeed in regards to this matter. It isn't hard to see which clubs are dodgy in regards to the cap, their silence speaks volumes.

Just don't go near Darcy Lussick. He is among the dumbest, least talented footballer I have ever seen

If 11 clubs are 1-2m over then the remaining 7 need to accomodate $2-3m each? I'm not sure it's possible at current cap level. What a diabolical situation which emphasises the unworkable nature of the nrl; that it is driven by short sighted club execs who are driven by short term self interest rather than the longer-term betterment of the game. Imagine trying to run this rabble….impossible.

You look at the so called strong clubs, that we all think have two sets of books and are up to questionable practices and you look at how many comps it has translated into. In most cases it about the same as us!!!
Okay they might make the finals every year but how many times do they convert???.

Just shows you how hard it is to win a comp, you need a hell of a lot more than lots of money

Last time I checked 11 + 7 = 18
And I am pretty certain that the NRL is a 16 team competition

Bulldogs, Penrith, Manly, Parra ect under the pump. Especially the Bulldogs
Don't really care I'f we end up with Woods or not. Just loving the current State of the Bulldogs.
I guess it says more about me than them. I know it's pretty petty, but I'm actually getting enjoyment out of this. :roll
