Player Recruitment

We've had 8 solid new signings but we still have a lot of our squad off contract or leaving.

We've definately lost Mitchell Moses, Ryan Papenhuyzen , Ava Seumanufagai, James Tedesco, and Aaron Woods. So 5 out, 8 in.

We have to re-sign or replace Matt Ballin, Joel Edwards, Tim Grant, Watson Heleta, Justin Hunt, Jamal Idris, Jack Littlejohn, Kyle Lovett, Matt McIlwrick, Kevin Naiqama and Jordan Rankin.

Ballin and Idris are probably retiring, some of those players are depth at best and some will be replaced from Holden Cup. Either way we're going to have to spread a chunk of that remaining cap putting a 30 man squad together

Would count Siro and Farah as we are still paying for them, they were only replaced with minimum wage players.

This is pretty funny when you look at it for years we mis-managed the Cap and rarely bought any decent First Graders in…Now we have ample space and we need more decent First Graders in but they are starting to get thin on the Ground...

It's not a case of stowing it away for a rainy day with a Salary Cap floor of 95.25% of whatever the eventual Cap will be for 2018 that Clubs must spend on the playing Roster..

We are still a quality Prop, Back-rower Centre and Winger short for a 17 IMO and that still leaves the need to recruit depth in the middle and outside backs cause our depth players we are using now in First Grade are short of the mark as it is...

There is still plenty out there in the market in our positions of need. Some of the options would be fairly short term due to age but that's ok, you can't always sign up players in their prime…

**Prop**
Agnatius Paasi, Patrick Kaufusi, Joe Ofahengaue, Brenton Lawrence, Jacob Lillyman, Toafofoa Sipley, Albert Vete, Sam Tagataese

**2nd row**
Adam Elliott, Corey Harawira-Naera, Bodene Thompson, Aidan Guerra, Jai Arrow, Luke Lewis, Ryan Hoffman

**Wing**
Kato Ottio, Kurt Mann, Michael Gordon, Alex Johnston, Johnny Tuivasa-Scheck

**Centre**
Tim Lafai, Will Hopoate, Blake Ferguson, Aaron Gray, Taane Milne

Plenty of good options for the forwards there, particularly Paasi, Kaufusi, Ofahengaue, Elliot & CHN.

The backs aren't very appealing. Will Hopoate would be good, but other than that I'm not too sure what else.

We definitely should be signing Michael Gordon. Wouldn't cost much. Geez he has been good for the Roosters this year. I'd play him on the wing. Lolohea at Fullback

Add Luke Lewis too. Both are very experienced players

I'd imagine Lewis will re-sign at Cronulla, but if not I'd love to get him or Hoffman in for 12 months. Both have been there done that at the very highest level, and would be a great tutor to some of the younger guys. Not only the backrowers, but across the board players could learn from them in terms of professionalism and mentality.

Gordon would be a yes for me on a 2 year max contract at around $350k. Runs straight, kicks goals and is safe, v. Good value compared to other fullbacks at +$1m.

I would also like a speedy winger, another prop and another aggressive backrower.

Gordon has been one of the best FB's in the comp.

Are you basing the $350k on performance or age?

I don't understand the support for Hopoate. We have trouble scoring points as it is and Hopoate is so slow. Our recruitment staff have to sign players with genuine pace and size.

And he won't play on Sundays!

CHN has apparently res signed with the Penny's, Gordon has said its either back to the bush or the Chooks,Hoppa has said that he wants to stay at the Dogs, Milne will or has re signed with the Dragons now they have plenty of money freed up and AJ will go to the Dragons to play no1.

Just my take on a few players we have been linked to and of course a contract these days means nothing

You missed a couple of players:

James Roberts, Jordan Kahu, Gerard Beale, Charnze-Nicholl Klokstad, Tyronne Roberts, Jorge Taufua, Kalifa Faifai Loa, Dane Gagai, Daniel Tupou, Alex Glenn, Zane Tetevano, Peni Terepo,

I would have a go at Gagai and would have a serious stab at Alex Glenn for the right money.

Looks like this has become another dreamers thread…I had such high hopes for it...oh well

He is supposedly going to Souths, but there is no harm in having a crack at him.

The only downside is, he is an origin player

They don't seem to be…Is Cleary on the right path...?

Cleary cut Lewis when he was 29 at the Panthers. Doubt he'll sign him at 34\. That's not going to happen.

One of the good things about signing so many experienced players on the cusp of 30 is that they will all only be here for one contract, meaning in another 3 or 4 years we won't have to stress about having to re-sign them, and we'll have another war chest to go into the player market with and do this all again.

Yes he will.

Is it Saturdays then that he won't play? Or has he finally become a professional footballer and not a part timer?
