The NRL should be looking to strengthen contracts with some sort of clause in it that states
3 year deal , you are locked in to this for 3 full seasons , if you pull out you do not get paid and you can't play for another NRL side until the contract is completed , the club also reduces its cap amount by that players amount so he can be replaced
If the contract is for 3 years there should be no options for either party for early release .
If a player is injured and out for the season he will get paid but the club should be able to take his payment out of the cap and replace him with a player in the lower grades with no penalty as long as it is not more than the injured players money , it is a buisness now and loyalty has gone out the window but the system in place is very poor .
The Wests Tigers are going to have a big job retaining our gun players and we are not 100 percent certain we will sign all of them so when you do sign a gun you want to keep him for the whole time ,
In theory it's a good idea, but it doesn't really reflect the real world. Contracts of management, subbies etc are constantly renegotiated and/or terminated before the original contract period expires because things change in the market. Rugby League is no different. As long as the terms of the contract are upheld and players are not left short changed if a club wants to move them on, or a player obliges by their terms if a club refuses to release them then there is no issue. To secure a release, the renegotiated terms of the contract must be agreed to by both parties.
