Players to buy off contract

To bad the recruitment gurus at the club can't see what we fans can.
For me I'd go
Neville Costigan
Travis Robinson
Nigel plum
Martin tapau
Jordan Kahu

Hodkinson has to be targeted. The Dogs haven't held talks with him yet and it would be a great time to show some interest as he has been playing well since coming back into first grade. He is a great organiser, who times his runs well, and has a wonderful kicking game. Sam Williams is another half who is stuck behind Campese and McCrone at the Raiders. A good young half with lots of experience and who remains very composed under pressure. He knows when to take the line on and has an underrated running game, his short play is excellent and has a good solid kicking game.

In the forwards I would target Costigan, Plum, Tyrrell, and a prop like George Rose or Roy Asotasi. Neville Costigan would bring some mongrel and aggression and can tackle well. I think he could be a good mentor to our younger forwards as well. Tyrrell can play prop, lock or second-row. He has a great work rate, hits well, rips in and I think he would make a good lock, playing in tight like a third prop. He is getting better every year and game as well. Plum pulls of some big hits which is something we have lacked for years. Asotasi and Rose are experienced, reliable and always show up to play. They could be great mentors to the young forwards and ease pressure off Ava, Sue, and Buchanan.

I'd target Mitch Brown and Maurice Blair for the outside backs. Brown has been playing well for the dogs and can cover wing, centre and fullback effectively and Blair plays well for Melbourne when he is in first grade and I thought he went alright at Penrith. He can cover 5/8 too if needed.

Considering NRL return

Hull KR prop Mickey Paea says he is considering a return to the NRL at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old former Sydney Roosters, St George Illawarra Dragons and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs player – whose contract ends this year – has been linked with the Wigan Warriors who need a replacement for Parramatta-bound Lee Mossop.

Rovers have offered Paea a new deal – thought to be two years – but he admits that talking to former Hull FC front rower Sam Moa left him considering a return to Australia.

Fellow Tongan international Moa made a successful return to the NRL with the Roosters after leaving Hull at the end of last season.

“I’m open to all options at the moment,” said Paea.

“Sam has been one of the best props back home for the Roosters. He was over here for five years and, like me, he improved over here.

“He went back a better player and he has definitely inspired me to go back and have another crack.

“I’ve got to do what is the best for me and my family. I would love to go back to Australia and I often watch the NRL.

“Nothing has been decided yet but hopefully something will be sorted out in the next month,” he added.

Don't know much about him, worth a shout ?

I'd be stoked with 1 experienced Prop and 1 experienced 2nd Rower. The below players all could be surplus to requirements at their current clubs and would offer cover for the next 2 years while our juniors develop:

Props

Luke Bailey
Frank-Paul Nuuausala
Roy Asotasi
Michael Weyman

2nd Rowers

Anthony Tupou
Tom Symonds
Scott Bolton
Luke O'Donnell

Re-signing Galloway and Groat should be priorities. The cost to replace them with equal quality would be higher than the cost to re-sign them, with the risk of failure higher in the replacements.

Lets hope we learnt our lesson from our current buys , fringe first graders don't cut it ,especially when they are replacing fringe first graders

100% right. Buying a fringe first grader now would be a complete waste of space. That's what we already have here bar Woods and Galloway (who's future is in question). We need to target 1-2 props who are starting for their clubs now or would be a starter here. I would not be against Signing Luke Bailey on a 12 month deal. I do wonder what the situation with Martin Kennedy still is - considering Evans and Napa are pushing hard for first grade, something's gotta give there.

What ever it is recruitment does…...it's not working.
Elite players, Fringe players they more time than not get it wrong...very wrong.

If they just did the opposite of what they perceive to be a good decision we should be right.

Who we have off contract and should resign only at a reasonable price;
Sauaso Sue
Ava Seumanufagai
Marika Koroibete
Keith Galloway (per game played payments only)

Who is off contract from other clubs we should consider at a reasonable price;
Sam Williams (Halfback) - Raiders ( About the best non contracted half out there) or we go with Brooks?
Shannon Boyd (Prop) - Raiders (One word SIZE)
Luke Bailey (Prop) - Titans (Originally I was looking at Ben Ross, but Luke will offer more to our young forwards)
Frank-Paul Nuuausala (Second Row/Lock) - Roosters
Sisa Waqa (Centre/Wing) - Storm
Drury Low (Wing) - Bulldogs (Class who can play fullback so good under the bomb)
Ngani Laumape (Centre/Wing) - Warriors (Could be another Tuiaki)
Siuatonga Likiliki (Centre) - Newcastle (Need a centre)

We need to address our defensive coach as the number one priority (Bye bye Roycee)

Before we start to talk about buying players who are off contract I think it would be a very good idea to find out how much money Wests Tigers actually has available to spend in that direction. Unfortunately I think most WT fans would be very dissapointed. Also most of the players Wests Tigers would like to sell off are unlikely to bring in much cash.

does anyone know joe galuvao's contract status? won 2 premierships + injured for season, i think he may be worth looking at for a year contract. a thorough professional afaik

also, nigel plum is a decent choice. just tell our boys to run at him all day. running at him is worse than running at a wall
