traditional liberal voters have deserted them in those seats
Nationals have done pretty well as no teals or Holmes a court in those seats
They didn't desert them for more conservative candidates they deserted them for people who were less conservative than the position of the Coalition. So taking a big old jump to the right is not the way to get them back. Get back to the somewhere around the middle where major parties belong. Also, no proper integrity commission was a stupid hill to die on.

My take is the liberal party has to move with the times.

I reckon they just pivot slightly and make themselves responsible environmental managers as well. We are small government (therefore small taxes), liberal values (no religious crap) and responsible environmental managers.

I reckon if you go down the religious conservative route you are gone for good. I think that was part of the reason you were voted against in this election. That motivated me to vote Labor.

I don't think there is one single lesson from the election, different demographics are sending different messages. Formerly safe Liberal seats in places like North Sydney falling over, but then an outer-suburban former swing seat like Lindsay (Penrith) has become safer Liberal. The Greens picked up seats in SE Queensland, but Katter's party had a swing to it in north Queensland. The make up of the Senate will be interesting.

liberals need to get rid of sharma and Wilson Zimmerman and get back to conservative values
They're the liberal party. Should be more of those. The liberal party was never intended to be a conservative party. It's in the name.
