The Federal Government passed a bill last Wednesday.  The Federal Police can now log into your social media, email ect.  Alter it the way they want and pretend to be you if they suspect you or “terrorism” or if they think you will do illegal activities.

Of course that won’t be abused, without accountability.

True Lies @mike also known as "Truth Speak".....from 1984 [one of the best books I have read].
I'm glad I have nearly lived my life.
The youngsters of today will soon be living in a much worse place to the world you and I have lived thru.

Mate i know this was not in response to anything i have said but i completely agree with your sentiment. When i was born the only real problem was the threat of communism and about 3-4 countries holding nuclear weapons. There where many wars of independence around the world as countries tried to throw off the evils of colonialism.Racism was a very large problem in most countries. Now there are at least 9 countries holding nuclear weapons and the likehood of terrorists acquiring them(its only a matter of time).Communism still exists but not to the same extent however Neo-Nazis are making a resurgance. As bad as the spectre of this is it is probably running a distant 2nd to man made Climate Change.Militant/Terrorist Islam is also a strong factor even though nearly all Muslims would totally reject it.Racism still exists in every country.Covid 19 has been the flavour of the last 2 years but to be honest as bad as it is it does not rate in the major challenges facing the world.
I have always believed that when i died i would leave the world in better shape than when i was born, there is zero chance of that being the case in fact as you have stated it is far worse.
Apologies for the rant

By “your” you mean someone committing a relevant offence? You still Ned a warrant - those are more difficult to find obtain than most people think.

That’s the point they don’t have to be committing an offence anymore, the Feds only have to think they will. This is worse than phone tapping, they can actually impersonate you, change your settings, respond to emails as you. This will be abused. It is a gross invasion of privacy and goes beyond just surveillance.

Sorry Mike but you don't know what you're talking about on this one.

Good work @willow a respectful reply to @mike...keep it going eh!!!

TI and SD have always been suspected of committing a relevant offence. But you can’t just have a hunch you need to present some evidence for your suspicion. It’s one of the most scrutinised areas in the country.

Once you give law enforcement the ability to impersonate someone that is stepping over the line. That’s a whole new paradigm that is open to abuse like nothing before it. I’ll be making my view known at the next ballot.

You mean like deep undercover operatives? Police have always been able to do that. We’ll have to disagree on this - I’m for it.

Yes we disagree. Undercover operatives don’t impersonate you, they infiltrate using other means/identity. There is a huge difference.

I am vehemently opposed to giving law enforcement such sweeping powers.

The powers are sorely needed. You might have a different view if you knew how much damage is done to the Australian community and economy through cybercrime and the threats Australia faces on a daily basis. The problem is most of the community is uneducated on such issues until it directly affects them.

So, @willow what are your credentials to "educate" us on these matters?

Nothing I'm prepared to say in this space.

So, it's up to us to determine if your definitive comment is based on knowledge or delusions of grandeur. Fair enough.

Send me a PM if you like.
[/QUOTE]

I feel your answer to @tiger-tragic @willow saying it's ok for him to send you a pm is a little bit...well you know.
I have no intention of doing so, but what if I pm'd you, would you tell me?
What about if the hundreds of people that read your post pm you, would you then tell each one how you are privy to the knowledge you have?
Then the whole WTF would know...so why not tell us all now?
Maybe you just like to be mysterious?
Or do we have something to be afraid of?

Yeah but if the law enforcement can impersonate you using tech, the money you have moved by tech is not safe.

These powers cannot be used on ad nauseum as you seem to think.

When push comes to shove it will be abused by those with vested interests.

Nonsense, if you saw the mechanisms behind how these powers will be used, and the justification for doing so you would probably re-think your position. The reporting and oversight on how these powers will be used is among the most stringent of any in the country in the world. As far as the powers being abused by those with vested interests...if you're implying government officials, guess again. For an investigation to kick off, there are a whole raft of decision makers involved and we don't do it on a whim because of someone's 'vested interests' - it simply doesn't work that way.

You said in this post "we dont do it on a whim".

They will whittle away at those requirements, slowly but surely. You may have faith in that process, I certainly don’t.

Whatever you say Mike - if you knew of the threats faced by Australia on a global scale you would be shocked. These powers are aimed at combatting those threats.

I probably understand cyber threats more than most, especially those from China and Russia and other nations. It’s a week excuse for these changes.

I'll disagree with you on that Mike because two of the more recent jobs I've run have resulted in dead ends due to one of those countries in question and not having the legal means to pursue the matter any further. If these laws were available then, different story.

We’ll disagree but I do appreciate the work you and your colleagues do.

Yes, likewise @willow
FWIW I have no issue with security legislation that is specifically aimed at foreign state actors, it is when it is aimed inwards at the citizenry that I ark up, where it can be potentially misused.

Seems like @TillLindemann & @mike realise and respect that we aint never gonna know who and what @willow is and I respect them so I'll have to leave it here as well.

Your post was 'not' a rant at all imo @jadtiger, but it 'was' a post really well worth reading.

Announcements then nothing once again, this time on the National Integrity Commission as they celebrate getting away with 1000 days of inaction.

Scamo is too busy putting out political bushfires, see the fat fraud can use a hose after all

I steer clear of this thread, however I just want to say one thing in regard to our Premier here in NSW,for all the good she has TRIED to do over the last few months,I find it appalling that the person who is supposed to represent her people came out and publicly said ""when we open up and you are not double vaccinated you will be left behind""...
Gladys I pay my tax and Im a free citizen of Australia to freely make my choices in whatever I legally do within the realms of the constitution...
When I did my military training many years ago I was taught, that we are one and ""YOU NEVER LEAVE A MAN BEHIND''...
well done Australian Government I will now live like a rat in a hole because Iam NOT VACCINATED due to medical reasons, however I stand for my fellow man and hope sanity prevails because as I believe we as Australians have a FREEDOM OF CHOICE...
As Australians we dont care if people are black, white, pink or green, vaxed or not vaxed, disabled or not WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN AS ONE.....APPARENTLY NO MORE....
If the Mods delete this post because it doesnt suit some sobeit...Im digusted at how we are treated as human beings.....

And please dont give me the crap about its for the greater good.... God bless....
