Port Adelaide - Never Tear Us Apart

They've had this for a couple of years now I believe, Newcastle Jets also have this as their pre game ballad.

Melbourne Victory have Stand By Me as theirs. I wish Sydney FC would adopt a song.

They do … It's .. "Come on you Spurs"

My city of Sydney?

It's been mentioned a few times, for some reason it gets shouted down. Perfect type of song for football IMO Yoss.

I would have thought so. Very inner City too.

Port Adelaide have adopted their own pre-match ritual as Liverpool with You'll Never Walk Alone. They do it with Never Tear Us Apart.

Liverpool had a reason for adopting their song though after the Hillsborough tragedy. Not sure why Port Adelaide sing theirs, there isn't a story behind it to my knowledge. IMO it seems a kind of wanky concept without a story/tragedy behind it. They had one of their players die on an end of season trip 4 or so seasons ago, perhaps that is the reason?

Look I could be wrong FTB , but Port have always been the most disliked team in the SAFL and it is their way of saying no matter what you can never tear us apart

I like it , I wish I had a song I could sing loud and proud when my team was about to kick off like my EPL side does

Just adds to the spectacle and the emotion in my opinion

i do really like that the crowd all has a song to sing, ala YNWA, Blue Moon, etc. but the one thing i hate about port singing Never Tear Us Apart is that i love that song, hate port adelaide!!!

apart from that, it really adds a great atmosphere to the game. as for Eye of the Tiger, well, at first i thought it was actually okay…not sure why? maybe just because theyre the tigers, but it really is a very lame song...would much prefer Welcome to the Jungle, but not sure if i have heard it played somewhere else?

Okay, so if we were to adopt a song, what should it be?

Go West, by the Petshop Boys (or maybe you prefer the Village People version)?

No it needs to be a ballad type of song.the song cant be too quick otherwise it loses itself in the crowd.YNWA and never tear us apart re two songs that promote strength and togetherness between players and fans. What about he aint heavy hes my brother.

jerry, you didnt take that (go west) seriously did you?!! its a gay anthem…

Is their any reason we couldn't use "Never Tear us Apart"

Who gives a toss what the AFL ponces think

I still reckon the club should talk to Jimmy Barnes , he has produced a few rock n roll anthems in his time

Be well worth it and he is a Tigers man

What about whoo whoo whoo whoo We are Wests Tigers fans (obviously to Working Class Man )

I'm going to try and put some lyrics to words with JB's Working Class Man

Give me some time

The Port player died the same week Benji admitted walking into a kitchen and crying over hearing the news that his 2 best mates were signing with another club. 2 unrelated incidents obviously, but when you see a club mourning over the death of a teammate and then hearing about Benji crying cos 2 of his mates are moving to a different club, it showed how irrelevant what he was crying about really was in the scheme of things.

Another great song to use(Working class man). You know I dont think we need to change lyrics at all Re woo woo woo we are Wests tigers fan etc.Just like YNWA with Liverpool and You will never tear us apart with Port Adelaide Working class man if sung with the same passion at Wests tigers games will quickly become synonymous with Wests tigers(as it should cause Jimmy Barnes was a Balmain tragic).

Working class man would also suit this JV brilliantly as you can not get more working class than the Wharfies which made the Balmain area famous right up to the 80's when the area started to change and the Old fibros of Lidcombe and the greater Western Suburbs(grew up in a fibro myself)and the Macarthur district. The old Western Suburbs adage of being treated like second class citizens was very real in Roy Masters times of the late 70's with the magpies and this song suits them to a T. :sign: :sign:

Liverpool had adopted YNWA way before Hillsborough FTB. The song was covered by Gerry and the Pacemakers who were a band from Merseyside. From what I remember, in the 60's the ground DJ used to play the top ten records of the week, with the number single last. The fans continued to sing YNWA even after it dropped out of the charts and it went on from there. Hillsborough tragedy in '89 was incidental and probably further galvanised it as the song for the club but it was already the Liverpool anthem way before then.
