Port Adelaide - Never Tear Us Apart

Absolute Joke, Stupid AFL

Stupid song,

no one wants to tear you apart port Adelaide…

I watched the Port Adelaide vs swans game when they introduced this for the first time, The Farras brothers are from Perth and admitted to not being into sport and dont even follow AFL,

I don't see why it matters if the band who wrote the song isn't familiar with the game. I doubt Survivor would have the first clue what Rugby League is, let alone care for it, but that doesn't stop our club blaring Eye Of The Tiger before every game.

Bet you the Farris brothers don't mind the royalties.

This is the same as many sports teams in OZ.

Melbourne Victory sing Stand by Me, and i think the Newcastle Jets also sing Never Tear us Apart.

As long as you've got a decent crowd size, and the song isn't too cheesy so fans get into it, it's a great idea.

Other codes try copy football, why shouldn't we? Pity Eye of the Tiger isn't really a sing along in a crowd type of song, more so karaoke/air guitar.!

NRL really needs to improve on the game day experience, we are so far behind it's not funny.
The best we can do is mascot races at half time.

I always thought "afterglow" by INXS would have been a great choice for Sydney FC. A ballad, an explicit line that says "bathed in blue," and for the most part the song has a synonymous meaning for a football club.

I like the idea of Never Tear Us Apart, mainly due to the fact it's one of the greatest songs ever written by an Australian artist IMO. The lyrics might not quite make sense in the context the song is being used, but it works IMO.

Totally agree, I was spewing the Jets used it first.

Everyone has different musical tastes of course but IMO Never Tear Us Apart is a garbage song that shouldn't be heard within 50 k's of a rugby league field. Hell, why don't we just all sing I Will Always Love You before kickoff.

I'm not really a fan of INXS myself, but football is significantly different to Rugby League. Rugby League would generally have a higher charged, energetic song.

We should definitely keep Eye of the Tiger, but have the original as opposed to the poxy club version. Either that or Welcome to the Jungle.

Agree, the WT version of 'Eye' really is poxy. Maybe we could sing 'Ebony And Ivory’….(and orange!) In all seriousness though I think we should leave the pre-match choir practice for the kick-it-with-your-head game fans, they seem more into singing etc than watching that actual sport. Can't say I blame them TBH.
