Gritty come from behind win. Don't believe the Gc were no chance crap. They only had two out and we had one out. They had a new coach and played / defended well in a home game for them.

Highlights - tapau s smashing runs / tackles. Woods work rate , offloads. Farahs 40/20\. Santi lodge lovetts slotted straight in to 1st grade. Brooks chasing down Gordon. Naquamas defensive reads and hit ups. Teddys brilliance. Simonas tip on. Richards field goal.

Sure not everything brilliant but we are one win no losses and at home to the dragons next week. For this week at least all is rosey.

I really think the back row needs to be Sirro, Taupau and Santi.

yep i hated the notion of taupau as the "wide running backrower" but have waremd up to it. the form he's in, he could play anywhere in the 17 and kill it.

sue really disappointed me with yesterday's performance.. thought he'd be the best backrower this year. hope he can prove me right next week.

Me too. We don't really have a choice. We can't afford the big man getting splinters on his arse every week for the first 15-20 mins.

There is alot more to a quality forward rotation than starting the game with all your big guns on the park.

No matter when he gets on the field, Tapau will be picking splinters at some point during the game, he isnt an 80 min player, he is the injection of aggression and power.

You dont win the game in the first 20 min, you can set a solid platform in that time… you can bust a game wide open in the latter stages of the first half though.

I was dissapointed with Sue too…..just not involved or aggressive as I would have liked.

Only first game though.

Goal line defence was good.
Diffused most kicks with little hassle.
Sirro, Galloway and Woods.
Kyle Lovett and Santi were good.
Few all or nothing plays only running the ball on the last when deep in their territory.
Kicking game was solid.

Like most others was disappointed in Sue. Not sure the wide running backrower role is going suit him.

We gotta improve our discipline & I thought our kicking game esp in the 2nd half was poor (except Robbie's 40/20). Moses put in a couple of kicks in a row, midfield bombs that the Titans took uncontested on their 30m line, we have to do better than that.

Besides this I thought we did ok. Our defence has improved a lot only missing 20 tackles, which is on par with most teams who have played so far. Our attack needs to gel but we saw some good signs, ie teddy/brooks inside outside move (albeit with a forward pass), patty's 2nd try was a slick backline move.

I thought Tapau, woods & keithy lead the way up front. Siro looked dangerous with the ball & was unlucky not to score, also liked his tackle late in the 2nd half just after brooks chased down the Titans break. Kev is paying great on the wing. If Nofo hits form straight away I can see rowdy making way for them.

We're still a little sketchy in attack but we never gave up last night. Loved when woods went in to back up Moses after he was hit late from a kick and how good was it seeing all the boys attack patty when he put over that field goal!!

I'm a bit "glass half full" but despite there being a lot of work to do there were still plenty of positives from last night. Just hope Moses, Marty & Ava aren't out for long.

Our attack in the 'good ball zone' I like what I saw in the second half imo we weren't playing football in the first half at all, don't know if this was part of Jts plan or not but our structure changed entirely in the second half. It was simple but effective, the only thing I found frustrating was brooks hitting the flat runner too often when if the deep runner was to recieve the pass 9 times out of 10 we've got them and we score easily. When brooks and moses learn to choose the right option we'll be running in some nice tries. I understand that giving it to the lead runner keeps the defence guessing and thats what allowes the space for the ball out the back runner to eventually cash in on it but there was a few times where tries were bombed imo by just running the play instead of playing what was infront of them. Early days yet, it will be interesting to see how this part of both brooks and moses improves though, I actually think moses is better at this than brooks is.

taupau great first stint, average second stint.changed the game when he threw a pass that didn't need to be thrown with us in control.that is his test this year, the second stint with the game on the line.
brooks i wasn't impressed.
defense looked better though.

i'm convinced if we play Naiqama at centre and stick with it we will reap the benefits long term

Agree about Kevin playing centres. It's his preferred position too. Awsome player.

I have only seen the second half so far but I was impressed with Santi - he looks to have beefed up a bit - made good metres with his hitups and was solid in defence - cleaned up a couple of times when others missed tackles.

Where's the LIKE Button when you need it?? Great post Grrrrrrrrrr!

Santi really impressed me, Lovett worked hard, and the Fresh Prince looked like he's played with us for years (but had defensive coaching elsewhere).
Those mid field bombs were bad though, they may work in the 20's (sounds like they did against us) but not so much top grade, just kick to corners and chase for mine.
Lodge was strong too.

My one wish is for Naiqama to set up a try for Richards, aka the 'Kev Naq Patty Whack'

I thought Benji was back in the house watching those midfield bombs .
Brooks needs to step up his kicking game for sure .
