Possible Surprises for FG Team

How is Brooks suspended?

Trials count for suspension, so surely he's playing round 1.

This is what the judiciary rules that they have linked on the NSWRL site say:

_"Pre-Season Trial Matches\
\
44A. (1) No Pre-Season Trial Match is to be taken into account when determining the period of suspension under Rule 45.\
\
(2) Without derogating from sub-Rule (1), in any case where a Player is serving a period of suspension as the sole consequence of a conviction for either a Grade 1 Offence or a Grade 2 Offence, he may participate as a Player in a Pre-Season Trial Match during the period of suspension, but he shall not otherwise participate as a Player in any other Match (whether that be an NRL All Stars Match, a World Club Challenge Match, an Ordinary Match, a Finals Series Match, a Representative Match or a Touring Team Match).\
\
(3) To remove doubt, where a Player is entitled to participate as a Player in a Pre-Season Trial Match during his period of suspension pursuant to sub-Rule (2), and does so participate, that participation will not reduce his allocated or accumulated demerit points, whether pursuant to sub-Rule 39(4) or otherwise."_

The document has a 2014 date on it but it's the current one linked off the NSWRL site and a quick search didn't find anything more recent. Under that rule Brooks could play in the trial games but they would not count towards his suspension.

Ah fair enough. I humbly stand corrected.

I seem to remember instances of other players getting suspensions lessened, however in hindsight I think it was test matches, wold club challenges, etc.

Yeah I think clubs would rort it if they could just schedule more trial games to bring the suspension down.

You'd think Rankin and Moses would be shoe ins for the halves in round 1\. Doesn't matter who ears which number, probably moses taking on halfback with both floating around.

This did only change a couple of years ago (2014 or 2013) from memory clubs were taking the piss so it got changed to prevent people taking out blokes in a GF and then missing just trials

I think their will be a fair bit of competition between Drinkwater, LittleJohn and Rankin for the 7 spot in Round 1 but Brooks will be back where he belongs come Round 2
