while i agree potter probably isn't a coaching genius, you're definitely underselling him.

there were glimmers of what we are now seeing, last year. There were periods (surprisingly they were actually in the first 6 rounds) where our defence and attitude was good for progressively longer stretches of time. Game was 5-10minutes, game 2, 20-30 min, game 3, a half, up until Tigers vs Storm where we held em out for 60minutes.

but then injuries struck and it all fell completely apart.

also, he was getting a lot out of a couple of our forwards like Buchanan, Ava and Siro. But the talent wasn't available/fit to compete with the big sides for 26 rounds.

Potter is reaping the just rewards of his own hard work and also starting to collect change from the big calls that were being made as far back as 2011\. You either understand that or you don't. We are seeing yesterdays future in bloom before our own eyes.

what are you referring to here?

sheens and benji weren't rubbish, they were just past their expiry date with us. maybe if we moved marshall to fullback or centres earlier he could have stood a chance. his lack of impact in union just indicates how far he has fallen back to the pack. benji of 2011 would have torn them up.

Thats a real backhanded compliment.

If he is getting any benefit from the services of the men he has enlisted to help him well full credit to him.

There is more to coaching than selecting a team, its the whole damn thing. He has taken control of and systematically tried to change the whole damn thing.

He had to do this because the previous caretakers left the place stale and no longer relevant in today's professional league environment.

Potter has done real well instilling belief and comradeship in the team and rebuilding a very balanced squad whilst retaining the best elements of the style that Sheens created in very short order.

Its actually evolutionary rsther than revolutionary.

completely agree. even the evenness of the comp this year is very reminiscent of 05.

dont know how much emphasis people put on this, but i was very happy to see he moved simona to fullback instead of richards again. sheens was very stubborn in this way, and i think potter learned a lot from the warriors game. go pots!

A great coach and father figure for us but stubborn positional changes were his weakest link.

I remember at the time that I was soo freakin relieved that they chose Mick Potter. If you're successful in the ESL, there's a good chance you can pretty much replicate things here. I was stoked that Walters wasn't picked. Not many coaches can just jump straight into the NRL and be successful. Sheens was great for a few seasons, but man, how him and his cohorts lost the plot! How refreshing is it to see the team mixing flair with discipline? Add in some grunt which was rarely shown on a regular basis with Sheens and we've got ourselves a team that can be really threatening. Good on him. Would love to see him stick around for another few years. He's earned another couple. The players no doubt have total respect for him as their leader and not a mate which is the feeling I got with the old group of regulars.

The coaching structure this year is Potter's, not inherited from Teflon Tim. So any positive influence from the new structure is ultimately Potter's recognition, same as any flaws fall to him as well.
