Wests Tigers coach Mick Potter has warned his injured stars that they face the prospect of long stints in NSW Cup if the NRL side performs in the coming weeks.

Potter has put the ball in the hands of the youngsters brought into plug the gaps caused by a raft of injuries to big names like Benji Marshall, Braith Anasta and Keith Galloway.

Potter will debut a halves combination featuring Curtis Sironen and Tim Moltzen when Wests Tigers take on Brisbane Broncos at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Saturday at 7.30pm.

Sironen was just two weeks ago playing Holden Cup football while Moltzen lined up at fullback.

"It is difficult, obviously you want your most senior, your best players on the field all the time," said Potter.

"But what it does is give is some young guys a chance to play at the top level and to test themselves to see if they're up with it.

"You don't take it for granted that you're going to be an NRL player.

"I'm sure some of our injured guys would be worried if our guys start to kick along that they might take a little bit of time to get back or might never get back.

"I'm hopeful that every one plays good. There's a lot of pressure on within."

Potter is confident in his young combinations, following a pre-season training for such eventualities.

"It's not like the players haven't played together," said Potter.

"They've done a lot of training together in the pre-season.

"It's a good test for us. We've got a few young guys in, we'll see how they go against one of the better teams"

haha true, but we need the halves to click into gear for that to even be a remote possibility.

I think dropping lawrence would send a strong message and likely be beneficial to him in the long run.

If I was Potter I'd politely ask Benji to play his first round back in State Cup just to put the fear of God into everyone.

I would have Benji straight back into 1st grade, gives us so many more options. Keep Moltzen @ half & young Sirro @ lock or off the bench.

Agree with this. Lawrence is up against old legs tonight in Justin Hodges so I'll be watching that battle closely.

That is my preferred option too.

They might be old legs ,but they still belong to the No 2 centre in the world and they beat the first man 9/10

Watch Rowdy come screaming out of the line at Hodges and he will get beaten with ease and Brisbane score next play waiting for Rowdy to get back in the line in the exact same gap Rowdy should be

Then Potter should bench him if he is fair dinkum

Old legs?

Maybe, but he is the second best centre in the game behind Lyon, who is another with "old legs"

Pat Richards anyone?

we're gonna play aggressive against the broncos… bodene and woods will have the game of their life imo

Actions speak louder than words , its hard for Potter to drop anyone yet due to our injury list but if we ever get our first grade squad fully fit it will be interesting to see who goes and who stays, then we will see what Potter is made off.

Potter really hasn't come out and warned players to perform or face the consequences. All he has said is that he hopes everyone plays good so that the blokes coming back feel a challenge to get their spot back.
He is hardly gonna come out and say he hopes the young blokes fail so that it makes it easier to include the senior blokes when they are fit again.
Don't really see a lot of difference between Potter and Sheens at this early stage TBH. Maybe once Potter has a year or two to gradually shape the squad to how he wants it we will see the difference.

Oh yeah sure! He's gonna send Benji for a long stint in state cup haha what a load of c..p.
If we win every game by 50 and moltzen and siro score 3 setup 5 kick 40 20s all day it still won't happen. Who is he trying to kid ? The injured "star" players themselves are probably laughing at that one.

Hopefully the " stars" take head and get the crap together. The " Stars " are running around like over paid brats. This is not what this club is about. This is like a shot over the bow, but your right, if we are not winning, its hard to leave them out of the team. He 'd be a brave man if he did.
