Power play...the 5/8s

Reading the section of news.co.nrl,they highlight the 5/8s…...
Moses was given a good wrap as was Brooks, however they said that the success of the WTs hang on these two players....way to much pressure has been put on these two already and it highlights just how important it is to have some really good solid experience in the side week in week out..
I don't doubt they have outstanding ability and if they stay fit, will go a long way in their careers, but they need some hard heads to support them as it's a huge step from under 20s to NRL first grade, this has been proven on numerous occasions and with the likes of Teddy,Noofa,Simona and others they will need a lot of support throughout the year as they all hone their trade....
In my opinion these young players will develop into something special as long as they don't have to try and do it carrying a huge expectation on their shoulders every week....that's when they need the experienced players to step up and help them...
All in all the WTs team looks to be shaping up very well and I hope the young guys don't burn out carrying the team very week....

I agree TT, Unfortunately I can't readily see where their guidance will come from.
While he is the most experienced, I can't see Farah providing the necessary guidance as I don't see him being emotionally strong or mature enough. Perhaps the next best bet would be Woods. He certainly knows how to motivate, and re-motivate, himself when the going gets tough.

I agree which is why there is scepticism about having a team that is too young and not physically or mentally tough enough. Yes they could get a roll on and some momentum and who knows what might happen, but when the going gets tough they may struggle like last year.

I'd love to be wrong but IMO we are again lacking a couple of quality older players particularly in the back row.

They may develop into something special MAY !
They do carrying a huge expectation on their shoulders every week…but both Brooks and Moses are being paid unbelievable money to play 1st grade every week and therefore I expect them to play well every week.

Lets hope they can succeed because we are already carrying 3 players who are not performing to their salary in Lawrence, Moltzen and Gallaway and we can't afford to be carrying anymore.

Farah and Lawrence have to carry a lot of the burden. Times like this I wish the rookies would be banned from interviews.

Even when playing for a team who has a pack that regularly gets on top of opposition teams, young blokes find it hard to get themselves up week after week.
With what looks like our team at the moment, including the three you mentioned, it's a bit unrealistic to expect them to go well every game and be the saviour of our team.
I'll be happy if they get through the season with no injuries and not have to be subjected to a bashing every week.

We need our engine room to stay healthy. As long as the forwards can make headway into the opposition, Brooks and Moses will go ok, like any halves pairing that plays behind a dominant pack. You lose the middle and your halves will always struggle to make an impact when playing off the backfoot.

I hope JT lets the 1/2s play whats in front of them rather than having one on either side of the ruck. If allowed to play across the park they will be harder to spot from other sides.

Will be interesting, Moses actually suprised me this year, from game one he really wanted the ball and take on the other team, he also really wanted to get in and do his fair share of tackling. So with a big off season you would think 2015 he will be that much better.

One things for certain confidence and self believe will never be a problem, but what will be a problem is the same that Benji faced most of his time at the club, he will be under constant pressure to pull a rabbit out of the hat and when the team is on the back foot or under constant defensive strain for long periods this becomes very very hard.

Well Supercoach provided the halves actually plan a good clearance kick even when under pressure, and don't kick too many off the side of their foot it will be an improvement!

But seriously you are on the money with Moses being impressive, just hope the kids can be helped through.

We have a lot more to worry about than Moses and Brooks and that is why so many clubs have been after than since their early junior days and it is also why they are being very well rewarded. You look around most of the clubs that have done well in recent times they all have a roster of forwards made up of plenty of quality experienced players mixed with some real young athletes, Iam not sure our balance is where it should be, but players like Ava and Sue a year older so we might do a lot better than I expect. I do have plenty of faith in Taylor and his coaching team, so who knows!!!!

How can they judge some of these players? Some of them are at a new club (Milford, Barba, Austin,) and Moses only has a handful of games under his belt, some at fullback? Milford played a handful of games at five-eighth at Canberra and Barba's best form was two seasons ago. Reynolds was less than inspiring in the finals last year as well.

Wank article in my opinion. Outside Foran, Soward, Widdop, Maloney and maybe Mullen if he can stay fit the rest are all an unknown quantity.

What's the point of nursing all these young kids if there not going to give us any results on the footy field. By nursing i mean spending money. There is not that many options out there in the halves so its either these guys make it now or they don't and move on to the next prospect. We can't keep wasting money on youth that do not deliver. The club have already invested years getting these guys ready.

Youth will deliver if you surround them with the right people. At present they have been thrown in the deep end. I have no doubt both Moses and Brooks have the skill to survive and even dominate, my concern is will they be able to cope with the defensive workload as their are not many experienced hard heads to help them out. Lets face it every big brute in the game will be running at them all day

This and similar topics on the forum are much more enjoyable since Austin departed, as there is no more comparison BS.

Moses will show just how good he is after a growing off season. He will justify every dollar we needed to part with to keep him.

Absolutely correct Supercoach,I have plenty of faith in the young guys ability, but when the big cannons unload on them all game, how do you think they will stack up against them, and will they last all season copping it from all sides every week…..
This is where brute force and experience comes in,but have we got what it takes to look after the lads....
I hope the preseason really prepares them for a full on season, pressure football for eighty minutes every week....
Apparently this is what we are paying them big dollars for,but will they show us they are worth it,I certainly hope so for the WTs sake....

I'm tipping Moses to be explosive next year.
He will really shine with Brooks & Tedesco on the field.

I reckon that this is pretty accurate. I'd add though that guidance won't turn them into great players. Assuming they don't get injury problems they either have the ability to kick on or they don't. We are going to find out.

I think they will kick on but its not a sure thing.

A shame to have invested so much in the youngsters, only to fall short at crunch time, in not providing the right environment for their transition process, in terms of a forward moving, protective pack and some older heads.
But that's our financial reality I guess.
Pity there's bright young careers at stake.
This situation reminds me of families where the children look after the parents.
The children often seem wise for their age, but cracks soon appear.
Kids need a chance to be kids.
How much they're being paid matters, but not a lot in that regard.

Agree with your thread Guyofthetiger, and as I said earlier we need solid experienced NRL players to help guide and as you say protect them while learning their trade…I can see we are building a very good side with these young guns, but they will need help to get there,JT can coach them as best he can,but he won't be out there with them....the last thing we want to see is battered, disappointed and burnt out rising stars...
