I read that the NRL will give a $1m bonus to any team who wins the 9s AND the NRL gramd final. Pretty silly I thought, very unlikely that'll be an incentive for any team before the nines are played, and after they are played the winner is already trying to win the GF.
I don’t get that either. Are they saying it’s a bridge too far?
A million dollar bonus to a team that wins both, why not just up the prize money for winning the 9s? Clubs obviously take the NRL premiership seriously, but some don't see the 9s as a serious thing. Offering a bonus to a team that wins both, when odds are no team will win both, is just lazy. Theres no incentive there.
JD, I wouldn’t like to see the GF winner to get $5m as Phil Gould suggested because it would provide too much advantage to an already good team. The nrl has a heavy focus on being a spectator sport and operates in the spirit of socialism and equality so that each team is competitive.
If they want the nines taken more seriously then just up the prize money for the nines as you say.
