That's my point , what affect will that have on the players , that mentality ??

Reinforcing the fact that the ONLY important thing is winning NRL games, and that everything else has to be used to work towards that single goal - a pretty good effect I think.

All we did in my opinion was tell the players its ok to lose football games , and created more issue by getting touched up by the Roosters again

**Telling players they can't beat a side is a dangerous precedent**

Where you have gotten this from?

Because going into that match with that game plan wasn't going to do jack

You watch the game , we had four hitups and a long kick at the end of it

As I said earlier , you want to go into game and set some defensive plans in place fine , but if we have to use games to try and teach players that are on the verge on NRL to hit 5 up and set for the long kick we have the wrong players

And even if that is the plan , we should have taken a half over that will be working with these guys as every half is different and wants a different field position based on being a left or right footer , weak or strong kicker

As someone else mentioned we looked like we solely trying to protect players

That just doesn't sit well with me , they are footballers , they could be injured in training drills let alone games that have financial significance

At least try and throw some caution to the wind and go down swinging ffs

Look Happy's Tin foil is on to tight again …As if they are going to go into an NRL games down the track thinking OOH we're no chance remember the 9's when we got towelled by the Rorters with the wrong game plan and we treated it like a trial...give me a break.....

After three losing seasons (less than 50% of games won ) that last thing we need to be doing is basically throwing games

Teams create winning mindsets the same way they create losing mindsets

This club had lost enough games over the past three seasons

Tell me this Geo , you watched the game

What possibly did we gain from the tactics in attack we used v the Roosters

It wasn't structure , last time I checked 13 players play NRL games not 9 so the defensive structures you face are completely different

You can't even use kick chase as a reason , we would usually have face three at the back to deal with , not one

We definitely did not have a real crack against the roosters…how anyone can be pleased with that display is beyond me.

Quote Jason Taylor "We didn’t plan to play a Nines style of footy, the plan was to keep practicing the things that we had been working on and the results were really good.” and "It was good to practice that stuff against genuine opposition, albeit in a Nines format, and it was clear that we are making progress.”

The coach is telling us what his objectives were in the approach to the weekend. It looks like the coach was pleased with the display, probably because it met his training expectations. I'm happy with it.

I hope your right Geo , because if your not it means that Taylor feeding the mushrooms

what jt has said is how i saw it after the nines.
we actually played the first day pretty tight as well, difference was less commitment in defense by the raiders and titans that saw easy one on one offloads for us.
we will play it that way this year and it was good to see the players actually playing to the gameplan whether you like the gameplan or not.

it was also obvious jt wanted to see what Naiqama was like on left and right side.
basically played first half right and 2nd left apart for the warriors game where he stayed right side.
and he came through with flying colors.
he might not get that chance before rd 1 and used this time to his advantage to evaluate.

he gave us an outline of what to expect for the trials with the team selections and what the focus is on.

If four one pass from d/h hit ups then kick were what theyve been practising, then theyve got it down pat.

Bring on '15

It was obvious from day 1 that WT weren't gonna take this tournament seriously. I wasn't ok with it so keeping that in mind and seeing what JT wanted to see from the squad- I'm ok with it.

Maloney and Pearce were at their best while we had one reserve grade halfback

Which other half would you have taken Happy ?

From my viewpoint no team had a concrete game plan. Others teams just threw the ball around alot more because their players were able to. Our squad was forward heavy, meaning we could'nt employ the same tactics to good effect.

You're probably going to say that we should have picked a better squad then. But who could we have picked that was healthy and would've been better suited to the nines format ?

Happy, do you believe we should go into the trials with a win at all cost attitude or go into the games to practice and assess the structures and playing styles that Taylor and Co are trying to implement?

Very good question. One thing you can tell about Taylor is he hates losing but he is smart enough to look at the bigger picture.Lose the battle to win the war if you like.
