LIVE GAME Preseason Challenge v Canterbury

Live Game Discussion
Ok mate. Whatever you think. Best player since Sirro...your namesake.
I've had another look and I thought he did a job in his first stint. Never missed a tackle and made a lot of them. Only got pushed back once. One offload. I'm not saying he's an NRL starter but he was good today.

I thought No19 was everywhere in attack and defence [Broederlow]. A great young prospect!
And No 16-Jaxson Rahme got my attention as well. Outplayed his compatriot, Sukkar IMO.
Latu fairly quiet------was he there? Needs to get a voice ------ and the ball.
Not very excited about his future unless he pulls the finger out; very soon. Can't live on potential forever.

Have to agree about our 19. Strong game and no backward steps.

I’ll take Voss any day over Ginane. Warren Smith is the best though. The most balanced, just down the line. Have never really heard anyone say they dislike him. The fact he’s never over the top like virtually every other commentator, including the idiot who replaced Rabs, helps his likability.
Ginanes voice is like fingernails scratching a chalkboard.

I thought our defensive structures were ok but our scramble was very good. We defended their block plays quite well apart from a couple of bad decisions. For me defence is about attitude and I thought our effort was good.

Real concern was our attack, particularly in their red zone. In the first half we had 60% of the ball yet only managed one try. Like last year, I thought we had no depth to our attack hence looked rushed and disorganised. I still reckon Galvin looks to do to much - hopefully Luai will calm him down and direct the team.

Best for me:
Skelton - damaging returns and will be a consistent threat
Faataape - scored two and gave a great flick pass for the opening try
Luke L - took ball up strongly.
Galvin - played with lots of energy but just needs to read the game a little better and inject himself rather than over playing his hand.
Shout out to Marc Tannous - Only 19 and a Balmain junior who played half back in the second half. Did well and a player to watch for the future.

I'll go back and watch again. Maybe my standards are higher???

General impression was that the Dogs were a bit bigger, stronger and more powerful and athletic than us, especially in the forwards. Also they had better line speed and intent both in A & D.
Not to say that our boys didn’t try hard, but there wasn’t a lot of class, skills, speed or power from any of our guys. Apart from Galvin in the first half- maybe TDS and Skelton looked like they belonged. Thought Kit L, Broederlow, Noah J, were our best forwards. Faataape tried hard but his D lets him down.
IMO Latu was disappointing, and some others that also showed very little were Matamua, Feledy, Lobb, Tim J.
One thing that came to mind while I watched that group play was how poor our NRL depth really was last season, when you consider that quite a few of the guys in that WT team today actually played a handful of first grade games for us - a scary thought. Watching them today there were none (besides Galvin TDS and Skelton) that look like they should be playing NRL in 2025.

I did. You said I made things up. I could have dismissed you with your bias, which I did or tried to sift through game footage to back up what I said.

I think we agree on one thing. He is not regular first grade standard, regardless of whether or not he missed any tackles.

So why reply like I'm saying he is as good as sirro? Your reply indicating I was saying he was great. It made no sense

Had to watch the game in a pub whilst trying to talk to a mate, so my concentration was not 100 percent …

It’s not the top squad obviously and first hit out etc etc.. so getting those excuses out of the way …. I was disappointed with the attack … they had enough ball to win the game, but struggled in the opposition 20.. , defence was just ok … were opened up at times but dug in on their line in the main …

17 Saukuru caught my eye a couple of times in a positive way in the 2nd half …. Faataape looked ok , but really hoping we have better centers at the club…although he is fine as a depth piece ..l thought Galvin started slow …created those two overlaps on the 5th tackle ..but opposition will soon wake up to that ploy …. So he is going to need more in attack..the ball is in his hands a lot and he was up against reaerve graders … perhaps my expectations are too high

Latu needs to show more against that level of opposition…starting forwards over all a disappointment…

TLDR - Depth may prove a problem ( again) in 2025 …

Feledy got no ball but is proven a great attacker. His defence in the past has let him down but on that front made no mistakes yesterday. I thought he was solid and should get a few more games in first grade this season where I think he’ll do well outside Luai

How does he get it when Galvin is hogging it like he did? It’s almost like the plan was when Lachlan calls for it, he overrides you all.
I'll go out on a limb and say the whole side looked better in attack when Galvin was off. Two tries in the first 10 minutes of the second half and a few near misses on the back of decent team play. Might even be fair to say Fataape was better for our attack overall than Galvin.

Second half things picked up, no doubt.
Galvin noticeably over playing his hand.

Hopefully some improvement next week.

Noah Johansson really needs a discipline check, but looks to have good ability and aggression. Young Broderlow with some fitness and good pre season has a real ability. Feledy is nowhere near top 30 centre.

I thought we canned Lobb after his horror game vs Sharks last year when they stepped him time and time again
It didn't help that he was obviously injured and his inside man was as thin as tissue paper. He was limping like he'd snapped his ankle, yet Benji left him on.

It would be hard that you’re trying to get to a position on the field to setup a play c and here’s Galvin playing ad lib footy , and constantly over calling . Because in the end he did have 3 line break assists . The problem is what’s that strike rate . And the frenetic nature of his play was causing huge issues especially when attacking thier line . As that’s the 1 point on the field , where it is a chess match , and structures are hugely important . And that’s the one point on the field yesterday where we were abysmal .
