Madge says there is no time frame for Benji to make a decision in regards to next year.

He's allowing a great player the time to make his decision. Excellent player management from Maguire.

What if he decides to play on?

Exactly, I think it is the complete opposite of excellent man management from Maguire, it is saying that players can decide when they want to retire, even if their form is abysmal.
How does this look, they are saying it is ok for Benji to play like a poor CC player every week, and he can play next year if he wants, but Reynolds, Packer, Mbye who have a contract, you guys just get out the door as fast as you can, a really poor look, and worse man management.
Better man management is saying to Packer, Reynolds and Mbye, look we are not giving Benji a another contract and you guys should look at all other options for next year.
Not one rule for one player and another for another player just like his team selections, which reek of poor man management as well

How are we going to find that "Diamond in the Rough" player for our halves if Benji keeps playing and not giving him an opportunity to show his skills.
Benji for me could go around again next year if we only played offence as he is pretty good at assisting / scoring tries... the problem is that most of the game is about defence and he is just not up to standard anymore and we cannot afford to carry someone in the defence line. (we have enough of them already).

then hopefully Madge has the balls to say - mate time is up, time to retire and be involved in coaching instead of playing

(to be honest though - I wouldn't want him to coach the young guys, I don't want another Benji version 2, maybe in attack yeah, that's even a maybe - I would prefer Thurston or Johns - they would be good)

I don't know why people are getting upset..next year doesn't matter ..nor the year after as 2023 is where it's at maybe..2024 tho lookout as no one has a contract for then..

I'm looking at 2035. Blore will captain us to the premiership.

Is Benji still at 6 or on the bench ?

Coach and co- captain off the bench. He plays about 10 minutes per game. If the team need a spark he is your man.

You have Pascoe’s email address Jonesy. Might be time for a sternly worded email.

If I knew he would listen to me I would be emailing daily with my expert thoughts... :grinning:
Might even have to quit working ..

That seriously is the worst option to take. How many more tries do you need to see him let in before he calls it a day

Could say the same for our centre and winger. Everyone knows Benji has had serious shoulder injuries. There is still plenty of time. We also are not privy to discussions within the Club. But again a good move from Maguire.

if Marshall goes around again I'll be seriously considering my membership status. what's the point of injecting money into a club that would send a clear message that it's happy to be mediocre for yet another year?

That is the aim of most on here, apparently expecting finals next year is ridiculous.

You can expect finals all you want but realistically it most likely won’t happen if you look at the bigger picture. My expectations are finals every year however I know right now that’s not gonna happen and it’ll take time for that to happen. I certainly wouldn’t wager my membership on it. That’s nothing against you or anything at all I wish the players had the same expectations ?

I honestly couldnt agree less.Benji is a liability these days and it his terrible defence which is the direct cause of our centre and winger being under pressure because they are facing overlaps.Benji was a great player but those days are long since gone.
Neither Nofo or BJ are great defensively but when you have a turnstyle defending inside of you they will always struggle even more. The breakdown in our RHS defence usually starts with Benji

Right side defence fell apart earlier in the year, and then Madge moved LL from right to left, and dropped Benji. After that, the defence improved, then Benji came back and suddenly it was a shambles again.

Benji is my favourite all time Tiger, but his time has passed.

I acknowledge that we are a work in progress and that we are still a fair way off being a title challenger, but continuing down the same dead end street and expecting the road to open up is just ridiculous.

So unless we sign a better half might as well play Benji lol. Now I actually want Benji to retire, but if we are not even expecting to be in the top 50% teams then why does it matter either way what Benji does?

As I've said we need a half, prop, fullback and winger to be a stronger team. We should be looking at upgrading those as they become available over the next 2 years. By November I would be aggressively targeting those players for 2022, right now we should be trying to see what we can shake lose in those positions for 21.

We may as we play madden or another young unproven half they can’t do any worse. Would much rather use Benjis spot to develop someone than to keep him around. I agree with you on who we need to target and I hope the club signs the right guys

Imagine traveling back to 2005 a letting tigers fans know that in 2020 he will still be one of our halves 😂 the sad thing is we don’t have any better.
But as others have said,I’d give madden a go

Madden is not ready, one of the best comments I have heard about Grant is about him getting time to develop in QLD cup and that is why he was able to step straight into 1st grade and star. Too many young players are rushed into 1st grade to early and it stifles their development, especially being put into a team that is going to be losing more games than in wins. Ultimately I think that was one of the issues for Brooks' development.

Despite all the conjecture I'll be astounded if Benji is still contracted next year.

The club might be saying nice things publicly about Benji, because he's widely regarded as a Tiger's great, but who really knows what messages he's getting privately from the coach and club management.

Well, I hope that's the case anyway.

You don’t know until you try. Grant was gonna kill it no matter what and learning of the best hooker ever certainly helped. We can’t afford Benji another year that’s for sure we need to look to the future
