I have Sony TV's. I hate them. Putting a projector in the next house, so if anyone can give pointers for some good projectors that don't cost the world that'd be awesome.

I run a Sony projector in my HT CB, Epson is a good reliable brand when it comes to projectors.

I was always suspect of projectors
My mate just built a house which had a package that came with a projector.
The quality nowadays is amazing.

My misses doesn’t work so I got a loan in her name for the shares and she gets the dividends throughout the year and a tax return from franking credits of 4.5k a year

We (the wife and I) have bought a bunch of shares. If anyone wants to know what to buy you buy the index because it's simple and it works. If you don't trust a random dude on the Internet do your research but Warren Buffet and Jack Bogle will tell you the exact same thing. Anyway this year I've had to pay additional tax due to the increase in income from being paid dividends.

I'm hoping to retire in the next 5 years.

I have shares in about 18 individual companies

Absolutely love the share market and the opportunities the volatility offers

Most dividends should have 30% franking credits attached meaning if you pay 40% tax you should only have to pay an extra 10% to cover your dividends

I buy VGS (all world share-market) which doesn't have franking benefits but I also own VAS (top 200 ASX) and CBA (they've given me free shares because I work there) which do have franking benefits. I also buy some bond funds (VAF and VGB) mainly for when I initially retire and draw down.

Is that Vanguard?

They are one I'm looking at buying in the next crash

I have a big list of shares and funds I'm going to go through and decide which are the best opportunity when the next crash happens

Yep. I only buy Vanguard indexes. I think there are other options but Vanguard is pretty good.

Its so much easier than picking shares plus most punters (and professionals) under perform the index.

Betashares and WAM do similar and are apparently pretty good

They cover most indexes? (Is that what they call them)

Asian and Nasdaq etc

VGS is the entire world excluding Australia. VAS is ASX 200. Vanguard is just the biggest and it's been a not for profit company for years. They have a huge amount of funds under management. How cool is it that they are probably the biggest fund manager in the world and they work on a not for profit basis. They work by trying to have the lowest possible fees.

Cheers

I will look into them in the future if/when there is a decent fall in markets

Sony used to be ok ...( big W ) crap imo
Heaps better out there now .

I was gonna write a whole thing, but why not just buy an OLED? I don't really get the fascination with projectors, unless you have a huge cinema room with strong light control, because projectors don't match a top-end TVs.

I got a Panasonic 65" 4K OLED last year, because I extensively viewed test units in-store and I've had very good experiences with my previous 2 Panasonic TVs. Sonys also look good, never owned one, but basically they charge a premium over the other manufacturers. LG make 100% of OLED panels anyway, so the only difference is the mounting hardware and the software each company uses.

Because I will have a big home theatre, and a 65" television won't cut it, otherwise I'd just use my current one. And I'm not prepared to spend the money on a 100" television

I had a Panasonic Viera 50” plasma before and I loved it , but it would heat the room up like an oven ..it lasted 10 years so it had a good run .

The Samsung QLED which is Samsung’s own version of the OLED blows the old plasma out of the park .

Projectors never interested me tbh...
To many bad review from the early days when they were a must have for about 4 weeks

Odd to think 65" doesn't cut it nowadays. When I bought my first flatscreen in 2007, 65" was top of range 1080p plasma and cost $20G.

It's enormous for a lounge room, but in a home theatre that's set deep it's not going to look great.

Exactly what I had. Ran hot but not hot enough to feel it across the room.

Even the OLEDs run pretty warm if you stand next to them. They are so thin though, when my kids stomp past the media unit, the panel wobbles a little. And I don't mean the stand, I mean the panel itself which escapes from the stand by several inches.

Totally agree re projectors. Really needs to be a unique space and setup for it. We're building at the moment and have a theatre space (most new project homes have something like that included standard - multimedia room etc.). It's wider than it is long though, around 4.5 x 3.0 so not the ideal shape and size to get a projector in there. We're going to go with the biggest LED we can afford in lieu of a projector. They're big enough these days and mostly better quality than any projector. Probably wouldn't sacrifice size to get an OLED though. They look great but couldn't afford one big enough.

Am also a fan of Panasonic. My parents have had their 42" Vierra Plasma for around 15 years and it still looks good. They're probably still a solid brand.

Well I can vouch for my current one, purchased new last year.

Also interesting tidbit - Panasonic have withdrawn from the US market, so you can't get a Panasonic in the states any more, only Asia Pac and EU.

Who really wants to talk about the property market Geo? It's oppressive in most big cities, then you get persons like yourself who manage to own a portfolio and make the rest of us jealous anyway.

My Dad made an absolutely awesome profit when he sold his house, not through planning or astute buying, but simply because when he needed to buy a house the market was very modest and the population was almost half of what it is now.

By the mere luck of his DOB my Dad set himself up for his retirement by buying 1 house. Don't think you can say that for anyone born after 2000. Even myself, I was lucky enough that I bought a unit in 2006, when I could first afford a mortgage, and that gave me a leg-up to get a house.

Everyone I know and am related to lives in Sydney somewhere, so there's no impetus to move to Sticksville, and regardless, Sticksville isn't cheap anyway.

So let us talk about tellys.
