My parents have had their 42" Vierra Plasma for around 15 years and it still looks good. They’re probably still a solid brand.

Well I can vouch for my current one, purchased new last year.

Also interesting tidbit - Panasonic have withdrawn from the US market, so you can't get a Panasonic in the states any more, only Asia Pac and EU.

Any idea why? Is that a bad thing? US is pretty big..

Ah something about difficulty competing in the US market, which is apparently heavily focused on low-cost sales rather than premium models. I don't think Panasonic can compete there as a brand compared to some cheaper Korean and low-cost Chinese offerings.

Also, Panasonic were all-in on plasmas, which they've now d/c, and I don't think they built a huge brand for their LCDs in the States.

Generally speaking I think Panasonic have struggled in some device ranges, because the market has changed so much in the last 10 years, e.g. decreasing importance of a bluray device vs built into consoles, soundbars vs home theatre, media streaming devices and personal assistants etc. Unlike Sony they don't have a Playstation market to prop up sales across the business. I believe quite a few Japanese-based electronics companies have struggled recently.

Panasonic recently bought an international commercial refrigeration conglomerate citing that they wanted to get away from low margin electronics. They have a commercial showcase supply contract with Coles and Woolworths in Australia lmao... They must be making nothing on TV's and the like.

Yeah makes sense. Backing the wrong horse on plasma technology definitely wouldn't have helped.
