Punch-ups - are they good for the game?

New initiatives in junior league across NSW this season, Tough Love in League - automatic send offs for throwing a punch:

4.1 Zero tolerance of fighting on
the field.
Any player who throws a punch
or “strikes” another during a
match will be automatically sent
from the field. If that player is
subsequently found guilty at
Judiciary, the MINIMUM penalty
will be a one week suspension.
4.2 Any player found guilty of
breaching rule 4.1 for the third
time in a season will incur
an automatic MINIMUM 12
month suspension from
the game.
4.3 A “TIME OUT” system will be
introduced whenever a severe
“melee” occurs.
A melee is considered to be
misconduct involving more than
two players in the game at any
one time.
The referee will signal a “TIME
OUT” period and call for the
ground manager to bring both
coaches’ onto the field.

Robbie Farah pumping Watts in the scrum was so good, haha…
Loved seeing that idiot's fact after wards, aww he was so cut LOL.

I have always maintained that more people go because of the fights, then stay away because of them.

Ridiculous thuggery is disgusting, but heated & warranted fights are fine. SOO fights are just a part of SOO, they are just a by product of all the passion and pride.

They a great for the game.

At home they are fantastic viewing. At the ground they really get the crowd involved, you can just feel the excitement when it occurs.

Its a high contact/collision sport, tempers are always bound
to fray, its been happening since the game began and will
continue to happen - sorry to disappoint you, bit its PART OF THE GAME.

x2… If it just happens as apart of the heat of the battle, I'm ok.... If its pre-meditatored, I'm not so sure.

I was always a little hot under the collar and played the game on the edge, **but the Up-and-Under we saw 2 years ago in Origin 3 was not good for the game!!!**

I'm staunchly QLD Watto, but I found that in poor taste. That was a blatant pre-meditated AND concerted effort by the whole side. They had the series sewn up and there was no need for it. I couldn't look the other even if it was Ennis.

Love them.
Used to look forward to the SOO brawl after the first tackle.
Top stuff.

I was watching a few of the SOO blow-ups last night on U-Tube… Ricky should get a 40min compilation together and make the NSW boys watch it 24hrs before SOO 1!!!

NSW could of always of kicked it back . Maybe we could of seen one of the games great highlights a kicking duel to finish a Origin series .

looks like everyone agrees that there is nothing better than a stink!
It fires up the players and the fans like nothing else can.

Basically everytime i know we cant win a game i say "put the stink on" lol, i say it in jest, but most of us love it under the right circumstances

hahaha I was sitting in a beach side bar of the Thailand coast watching that game with a heap of scottish backpackers. Everyone loved it.

If that game had 20 to go it would have been the most ferocious yet exciting SOO finish ever. Great memories…

Agreed, was incredibly petty. But with Inglis, Thurston, Hodges, Thaiday, Hunt and several other dropkicks in the same team what would you expect.
