Questions being asked of CEO

In a drama packed time like this, why didn't Mayer let the fans know that editing on this clip may cause dramas, because the most important message being delivered by our captain is missing. Come on Grant, we know you love informing the fans on developments. You would have cleared the air at a time of need. Just tweet.

Mr Mayer did your mate Brian do a review of our media team? Lol, did he Grant.

This is the 4th or 5th apology from Mayer this year. He tries to act strong and proactive with the fans. That might make some of you feel special but let me just say this, the best run clubs are the ones that get their business done quietly and behind closed doors . I.e broncos , roosters, bulldogs. What have we heard from these teams board, CEO, what media leaks have there been from the board room.
If tigers are to be successful in the future, Mayer and the current board cannot be there. If we have strong administration , we will be the most successful club in the next decade.
I wait and hope

yes we do need a board, but i wouldn't be surprised if there are slim pickings of people that want to be associated with this basket case of a club.

The only reason Mayer has to run around putting out spot fires is because of how incompetent our board is. The current board leaks like a sieve, is beset by bickering, infighting and people putting their own agendas ahead of the good of the club. They have been a basket case for a long time now and it's gotten so bad that NRL has had to step in and force a restructure.

The fact of the matter is the board should have supported Scotty Longmuir back in 2009 when he wanted KPIs for Sheens who had failed to get the team to the finals for three years running. Instead, they support Sheens who ends up getting a fat contract without any accountability and Longmuir steps down, which means the next CEO has no choice but to implement to boards will, no matter how stupid, or face the sack. Humphreys spends his time at the Tigers doing doing what he can to mitigate the board's stupidity and eventually ends up getting Sheens sacked mid contract because it was in the best interests of the club, despite having his name dragged the mud. After achieving what the CEO couldn't, namely enforcing accountability for Sheens, he steps down.

From day one, Mayer has always said the decision about the head coach was a decision for the board to distance himself for the clusterfuck that is our board. Under Mayer, Potter made all the hard choices, from benching Farah and Marshall, to sticking with Anasta because it made Brooks feel more comfortable. You can say what you like about Potter and Mayer, but I reckon both of them have performed extremely well in the face of media scrutiny and lies as well as fans backlash, all the while saddled with an incompetent board and haunted by all of their bad decisions from the past six years.

Everything starts at the top. If the Board is efficient and running well with everyone on the same page, then the CEO knows exactly what is expected and the direction he needs to steer the ship. Then the coach and players can get on and start coaching and playing. Get the Board right and the rest will start to fall in to place.
Until that happens, it'll be the same crap we've seen over the past few years.

Mayer puts himself out their in the spotlight, thrives on media exposure and social media. Lests face it you would be battling to name half the CEO in the NRL, but people who follow the NRL would have seen or heard of Mayer. This can be a very positive thing and also a negative thing, but the old saying live by the sword die by the sword.

You can not have it both ways, be very open during the good times and pull the shutters down when their is some controversy around the joint. At present we look like a rabble and it is up to the CEO to fix it. Really IMO Mayers job should be the one the review focused on more than Potters.

Anyway from a positive slant, Mayer has done great things in the marketing side of the operation and is a slick operator when it comes to that side of the business.

This club is crying out for stability right across the board and I just think Mayer tends to be all over the place, good one day and bad the next, but like Potter I think he needs more time before we can make a proper judgement

Just on the board rather than Mayer. What is the reason the NRL didn't move immediately on bringing in their sanctioned board instead of waiting until the end of the season. If there was a reason behind this it has surely been blown apart with this drama. The NRL should immediately dismiss the current board and either appoint an administrator or an interim sanctioned board before this club implodes completely.

I am losing more and more faith in Mayer. He did a great job early in the year signing all the kids up, although he was kind of an accidental hero on the Teddy one. However with this Potter saga he's completely screwed it up. If he had just come out a week ago and doused the flames it'd be all good, but instead it seems he's done the opposite. When this NRL sanctioned board comes in I hope they have a really good look at him. Someone at the club is leaking private information to the media, and someone has been lying the whole time.

If we're putting Scott Longmuir up as the yardstick for CEO's at the club, we really are aiming low. Not sure if people realise the absurdity of some of those said KPIs, one of which was 'an acceptable level of personal fitness'. Sheens was also required to submit a written report to Longmuir by 9am each Monday morning & meet weekly to review that week's game. In a professional sporting organisation that kind of mirco-management is ridiculous, and probably why his tenure was so short-lived.

In regard to Humphreys, say what you will about the end of the tenure (and people seem to think it was a disaster, although I'm not sure where this comes from), he oversaw a period of success on and off the field with the most valuable jersey in the NRL (sponsorship wise), record merchandise numbers and two straight top four finishes. This is also the guy who personally flew to England and signed Lote, who was heavily responsible for those on and off field results.

For me, Mayer seems to love reading his own name in the paper, and seems more worried about telling everyone what he's doing, what he will do and what was before his time therefore not his fault, than actually doing anything. Membership numbers are down, merchandise is down, sponsors are down - the 'this was all before me' excuse is really starting to wear thin. There was also the issue around the 15 year dinner - arguably Sheens should have been invited, but why other big-name former players, former captains and former administrators weren't invited is beyond me…..

Add to that - a mate of mine works for a company that regularly takes a table at the Chairmans Lounge for home games, said Mayer hasn't made an appearance there once in any of the home games he's been to this year. Surely he has time to drop in an chat to the (lately few) people who throw their money at the club.

I'm far from convinced with this guy - all talk and no action.

And that's maybe why Penrith seem to be thriving, seems one of our old coaches is over there doing a fantastic job looking after the corporate end of town at the games.

Said all along Mayer wasnt the man to lead us forward much to the chagrin of some on here …...... bit by bit he is gradually writing his own obituary.

Totally agree, I said the same and got shot down by people saying we should be grateful he's open and honest. Tell you what he fooled many on here.

How many times was I asked did he run over my cat …..... when I constructively criticised him !!!
He simply has to go.

Where is he? What is his involvement in all this? What is he doing to quell the rumours, broker a peace deal (if necessary)? Is there still a board meeting planned for today?

You can not have the drama of the past week without some major fall out and the way I see it, Mayer has handled things very poorly. So if their is to be a fall guy, it could possibly be him. Anyway like everyone else Iam not privy to the real facts and rely on this forum and the media to make my calls, so maybe Iam right off the money, but to me it is the old story–the buck stops with the boss

The old saying if your front office is in order your team will go good atm our front office is a bloody shambles and that you can thank Mayer he has not been cited since all this crap exploded he has to go full stop and take bailey and co with him
