No. After the play ball. The same point that the defence is allowed to move off the line if that helps.
Same as when they call 6 again for ruck infringement then the ball is dropped. It's a lost ball because it's the next play.
But 6 again for offside and the ball drop becomes a penalty because it's the same play.

Nine were saying the bunker can rule on the ruck/play the ball.....but I have seen what youre saying....there is 'dead time' so to speak between tackle complete and the ball clearing the ruck, I remember some years back a player stepping on the touchline once during this "dead time" and the ref allowed play on.

All that said...the ref saw it and apparently called it out in play...again according to nine comms

Definitely allowed to step out after the tackle is complete, in the act of playing the ball for example a foot on the sideline would be play on. The dummy half however could not.
Cant comment on the ref seeing it. Sometimes a ref might see 'something' but unsure on exactly what. They then communicate with their touchie who clears it or basically just doesn't help make a decision so play on ends up happening because you don't know what you actually saw to make a ruling otherwise.

Replays, however, showed Ben Trbojevic appeared to drop it at the play-the-ball in the lead-up.

Referee Adam Gee later told Rabbitohs players the ball only came off the ground because of “sticky spray”. “He never loses control of it, he plants it down and it comes up,” Gee added.

Manly get away with Burbo error

Gee has done a Bill Harrigan.
Gee has some explaining to do....what he says is actually correct...but it has NEVER been this way theres been mamy instances of the ball sticking to a players hand due to the sticky spray....and these have always been called a knock on.

I’m almost certain it’s happened to us before , and of course it was ruled a knock on
