Realistic team list round 1 2018

A question for all

Once our team is picked and as I see it , it will be our best team baring injuries, how long do we persist with that team

Keep in mind that the 1st 6 games we play the top 5 teams from last year
That I believe makes this question harder to answer

My opinion is if we preform well against those teams and all games are close then we should stick solid
We are a team of new faces and we need time to gel
Sure there will be some good players missing out on selection but they will get their chance
I don't envy Ivan picking our top 17
We all have our own opinions
What is yours

I'm not sure why you 'dont envy Ivan picking our top 17', but that is what he gets paid for.

He will live or die by his selections in 2018\. No Excuses!

anyway. lots of new faces and a proper pre season under Cleary and Ronnie. at least they look fit this year.

If your going to go with that.
You would have grant to start alongside Packer and bring Twal on with Matolino.

Lawrence is soo beaten on this website it ain’t funny. I watched the Rabbitohs tigers game round 1 last year the other night.
Lawrence took his first hit up and made 6 - 8 meters pretty much getting stopped in his tracks.
Next hit up same thing.
Next hit up gets 10meters about 4 of those post contact.
Next hit up gets the same distance possibly twelve, breaks a tackle and half breaks the line.
Next hit up same thing.
You can’t knock that determination and despite some people thinking he doesn’t have the frame for the position he proves that he is fitter and lighter on his feet as the game goes on.
From the first hit up to the last it is still 100miles an hour.
Rabbitohs made a break, Walker I think it was, the ball went out wide then back into Sam, the player running back putting pressure and cleaning up the lose ball was Lawrence.
**A fit Lawrence is a valuable asset** and if his capable of punching 80mins at 100miles an hour his a starter and my pick of Captain every day of the week.

Yep, when he is fit Lawrence goes well. I have no doubt there. And I fully expect him to get selected if he is fit.

But it's when he is tired or off the pace for whatever reason, that his hands turn into flippers and he loses all that effectiveness. When that happens, I really hope Ivan selects someone else - there is certainly enough depth to do that now!

There are some hard decisions to make on naming the team
But Ivan will know better than any of us who should be selected

That's his job…we just like speculating because it gives us something to talk about

They need to name a 21 man squad on Tuesday
18\. Marshall ©
19\. Grant (c)
20\. Sue (c)
21\. Rochow (c)

After captains being named yesterday i guess its confirmed that Marshall and Lawrence will atleast be in the team for the first few rounds unless not performing.

So i wonder if that has changed alot of your Rd1 prediction teams? I noticed a few people didnt have marshall or lawrence in rd 1 teams?

I dont think Lawrence is a bad player. Hes got some good traits. I just dont want him and Mcqueen who is similar on the same run on side. This could be offset if Eisenhuth was lock but ET will be lock. The 3 of them average around 60-70 metres gained id reckon which isnt good enough. Wed have to rely in our props and our wingers to get the roll up the field. Id want Eisenhuth at lock or Aloiai at 2nd row just to give us more size and versatility.

I don't like the idea of having so many Capt's .. I can understand having a Club Capt which doesn't mean he is theam Capt .. but called them 5 leaders who will Capt the team throughout the season is tad wishie washie for me.

I've said it before, but I'm seeing it hard to fit Lawrence in the starting 17, having a foward pack of (not naming the rake): Matulino, Packer, McQueen, Eisenhuth, Taylor, then having on the bench any of the following: Twal, Aloiai, Sue, Rochow, Grant, Felise .. all have size and impact over Lawrence.

Benji would take my utility spot on the bench Rd1

From all reports MWZ is training the house down and is firming a starter on the wing.

If reports are to be believed, looks like MWZ is going to get a wing spot to start the season. Still leaves a centre spot open.
1\. Lolohea
2\. Nofo
3\. Milne
4.? fonua/Marsters/Kev
5\. MWZ

According to the clubs pr pieces every single member of the squad has had the best pre-season ever, is super determined to give their best and succeed. Premiership favourites if you believe this fluff.

We'll see in the trials and over the first few weeks whether or not players are any sharper and more focused than last season.

IC sure is playing his cards close to his chest.

Who do you play in the trials? 30 players, everyone
Who is the captain? These five players

What's the bet IC names the 21 players for Rd 1, numbered not by position, (1 fullback, 2 winger, 3 centre… etc) but alphabetically (1 Aloiai, 2 Brooks, 3 Eisenhuth...), just to keep everyone guessing right up till an hour before kickoff
