Realistic team list round 1 2018

We have a lot of depth this year it’s clear to see when Cowboys has Scott and Thurston off we were a class above. Our second unit is very good and I wouldn’t be surprised if we win NSW Cup.

My lineup is 1\. Tui 2\. MWZ 3\. Marsters 4\. Milne 5\. Nofa 6\. Reynolds 7\. Brooks 8\. Packer 9\. Liddle 10\. Matulino 11\. Lawrence 12\. ET 13\. Eiso 14\. Twal 15\. Aloai 16\. McQueen 17\. Sue 18\. Marshall

Can't see Lawrence keeping McQueen out of the starting side.

Thought he matched up well against Ethan Lowe last night and he is a player that I would like at WT.

I'd have a backline like this. Our big concern is the halves. Brooks is inconsistent throughout the game and puts in too many bad options. Reynolds isn't much better. They both have some ability but they need to improve massively. I'd have Nofo and Milne on the right and Masters and Fonua on the left. That provides plenty of power in the outside backs. Tui at fullback may be a weapon for us. Benji has to be on the bench to replace Reynolds or Brooks. Gamble may even get a spot in the halves by the end of the season.

1\. Lolo
2\. Nofa
3\. Milne
4\. Masters
5\. Fonua
6\. Reynolds
7\. Brooks

The forwards are really hard to pick Aloiai, Felise & Mikaele looked good. It's hard not to pick all of them somewhere in the team. I can't see McIllwrick being there all year. Liddle should come into the team at some point. Eisenhuth looked a little loose out there and so I went with the small backrow but ET just plays in the middle. ET might also give us some better service compared to Brooks and Reynolds. Lawrence and McQueen to play the whole game and Felise, Twal and Aloiai to interchange up the middle. If an edge backrower needs a rest Aloiai to fill that role. I'd have Reynolds replacing McIllwrick and Benji coming on and getting plenty of game time.

8\. Matulino
9\. McIllwrick
10\. Packer
11\. Lawrence
12\. McQueen
13\. ET

14\. Felise
15\. Twal
16\. Aloiai
17\. Benji

Yep agree Lawrence is the definition of a great club man but surely McQueen pips him for skill at this stage of their careers

Reynolds would be a terrible hooker.

I have no idea why a lot of people want him to play there.

His passing is erratic. Its a highly specialist position for mine which require control and crisp passing.

Godinet impressed me last night. MM is a plodder for mine. Hopefully Liddle is back soon.

Gamble is a 24 carat gun who is a member of a very elite playing group….He is the complete package and I'm hoping the powers to be can fit him in our first side before too long....No more waiting for someone to produce the goods for whatever reason and for however long.... :sign:

Gee Gamble looked good in the trial.
And Masters has and always was better than Suli.

Agree, if they starve Gamble from first grade other clubs will snap him up in a heart beat just with the likes of Martin and Austin..Brooks 5th tackle options are woeful and Reynolds is not great..Gamble can hit in defence..twice last night the cowboys dropped the ball after Gamble snapped them one of which led to a try..name me 1 half back in the last 10 years who could do that twice in 1 game? name me two halves in the last 10 years who could defend better than Gamble and Reynolds?..the kid has some confidence and composure our future is with him in the halves.

Reynolds should never be a starting hooker with his passing game. Also he seemed to be a bit late to get to the DH position. However if Ivan goes with Benji or Gamble on the bench I'd be happy for Reynolds to have some probing runs from DH. There was a period there when we were getting quick play the ball Reynolds was at DH and Gamble out a bit wider. We looked very threatening and Gamble scored one try then soon after set up another.

Don't mind your team except for MWZ at 5, I doubt he'll make Cleary's team we have potentially 4 first grade wingers, he'll play that beast who got sent off..it took 4 cowgirls to pull him down when he ran the ball and he plays the ball quicker than a heart beat..a very, very important attribute to have for a winger, I can see him and Nofo bringing the ball back on play and making plenty of metres.

1\. Tui Lolohea
2\. David Nofoaluma
3\. Mahe Fonua
4\. Esan Marsters
5\. Taane Milne/MWZ

6\. Josh Reynolds
7\. Luke Brooks

8\. Ben Matulino
9\. Jacob Liddle
10\. Russell Packer
11\. Chris McQueen
12\. Chris Lawrence
13\. Elijah Taylor

14\. JJ Felise
15\. Matt Eisenhuth
16\. Alex Twal
17\. Tyson Gamble

Tyson Gamble -> Lock
ET -> Hooker

If Liddle needs a rest. Otherwise, Gamble to play a DCE origin type role.

Will wait until after next week's trial to name a team, but on last night and in the presumed early season absence of Liddle, I would much rather have Godinet in the nine than MM in the meantime

I am not sure that Godinet can cope with the defensive workload in the middle of the field over big minutes.

Umm Josh Aloiai.

Do people not see this bloke. He came on least season and one look at his body shape last night backs that up.

Is exactly the dynamic back rower everyone is looking for us to sign.

He is in the 17 every day of the week.

Neither am I, but whilst MM can put on a hit, he falls down in other areas for mine, including defensively from marker and particularly so after decent minutes. He also just doesn't do the little things in attack that help take the defensive focus off pummelling his runners. They are both players that have been around for a while without cementing an NRL spot, with MM likely only getting the majority of his games last season because of Liddle's absence.

Godinet does not have the sit you on your arse tackle in his arsenal, but works hard and is no walkover, whilst adding a lot more spark than his current competitors for the spot

I agree on Godinet until Liddle is ready. He was a real good late pick up.

MM is too one dimensional and slow - good defender but after that the box is empty.

Anyone leaving Aloiai out of the side is doing a huge injustice to the team. He is our best forward. Beast.

I'd have him starting on the right edge for sure.

Fonua, Nofo and Tui will get us off to a good start to our sets regularly. Fonua looked really hard to tackle and he has a quick play the ball.
