So everyone knows that we lack experienced props. Our outside backs stocks are low because of injuries/age/releases so we need some there as well. So far we have made one signing, Pat Richards, which I think is a decent signing.
So far here are the players that have moved to other clubs or re-signed for next season ergo were apparently on the market, that play in positions most agree we need to recruit for.
Outside Backs:
Corey Norman (Parramatta)
Jack Reed (Re-signed)
Jarrod Croker (Re-signed)
Paul Vaughan (Re-signed)
David Klemmer (Re-signed)
Aiden Tolman (Re-signed)
Brent Kite (Penrith)
Will Chambers (Re-signed)
James McManus (Re-signed)
Aku Uate (Re-signed)
Kane Linnett (Re-signed)
Matt Scott (Re-signed)
Jarryd Hayne (Re-signed)
Jacob Loko (Re-signed)
Josh Mansour (Re-signed)
Dylan Farrell (Saints)
Luke Burgess (Re-signed)
Daniel Tupou (Re-signed)
When you consider that most of these players were never really going to leave their clubs we haven't missed out on much. As for the ones that moved the only one that I think we could have gotten usage out of was Brent Kite and it's a shame we didn't snag him but from all reports we tried. It's probably a reflection of the bloke that he actually went to a side that has a LOT of good front rowers to help his workload rather than a place where he'd be expected to pull hhis weight. Norman looks really good now but earlier this year and in years past he's been ordinary and Dylan Farrell isn't that big of a signing and the Saints are probably in need of a guy like him more than we are. So we've really missed out on nothing.
We have some very talented backrowers coming through but I would suggest that a good solid first grade backrower would be an equally important signing but for whatever reason all the talk is of props. If you look at backrower signings we've missed out on a fair bit more but still nothing to hang ourselves over.
I guess our recruitment department has looked at the available talent so far and has looked at our own depth and juniors and seen better in house, and I can't really fault them for that. It might be lean for now but with our depth we'll improve.
As for players left on the market, there are LOADS and we personally have a lot off contract. The Roosters alone have a hell of a lot of great young front row talent unsigned for 2014 and if we aren't sniffing around there we're mad. Dylan Napa, Isaac Liu and Josh Aioloumai would all be great signings. The Panthers have some alright talent in our key recruitment positions too. A guy like Travis Robinson would be a handy acquisition as would Dayne Weston. I wouldn't be upset to sign Nigel Plum either, heaven knows we need some good defence.
