I agree that it was an absolute joke of a decision and did not look to impede that player that made the tackle in any way.

Read that again.. he was held in the scrum but was able to essentially make that tackle, even though a try followed.

However, we were never going to win that game.
Absolutely TERRIBLE game plan.
This team, madge summed it up perfectly when he said, "dam, u guys have got me... 🤦‍♂️😪"

Agree, the penalty from the scrum, while bizarre, was the least of our problems?

The problem with the tigers is when refs do get it wrong (IMO is a lot) we give up and allow bad calls to ruin our game! We have no heart and that’s something I don’t know how they’re going to find it! Our defensive coach needs to be sacked immediately and certain players names should never be mentioned with anything to do with the tigers except they’re getting a release!!

I dont agree with your original post but agree with this. I dont however believe it is the refs to blame but rather the higher ups telling them how the game should be refereed. Im not suggesting bias but rather what constitutes a high tackle or a set restart changes from week to week. Besides the stupid rule changes, I dont think it is so much inconsistent refs but that they get told they are going to hard one week, only for them to put the whistle away and be told they arent going hard enough the next. Performance reviews around what constitutes what should not change weekly but only review when a clear wrong error was made how did the ref get to that conclusion. This should eventually reveal if a ref has a high error rate or control, communication or positioning issues that can be individually worked on or if it they are just one off mistakes that can be forgiven. Constantly changing the goal posts for what is a good performance for them will result in them never actually having a good performance.

They made scrum penalties "differential" because referees could determine the outcome in the dying minutes of a game with an obscure penalty. We couldn't have that.

Then they totally destroyed the scrum by deciding that you could feed the ball in behind the second row's feet (and the players can't push). So the referee can't influence the game at all with obscure scrum penalties.

Then they introduced the six again rule so that the the referee could once again determine the outcome of the game.

I feel like...."just give us back our game willya?".

That "scrum penalty" today was an absolute joke, but it wasn't the cause of our loss.

Not even close I'm afraid. This is where Capewell gets to his feet and plays the ball. Capewell only steps to the side after he's played the ball, and Cook can't run to marker after the PTB has been affected - he's offside.

Personally I don't think the reffing has been that much better or worse than previous years. I think the standard of football is worse and I think the ref calls exacerbate the issue.

For example Tigers today had no justification to let in 50 points. Doesn't matter what the ref calls are. But I believe under 6-again, even though some ref calls are not scrutinised as much as under the old penalty-only system, teams aren't mentally or physically tough enough to withstand several 6-against. They don't get a breather like they did with penalties, and you have about 10-12 sides going around that fold under any pressure.
