I wasn't as fortunate as some to know her for a great length of time - I first met Kay in 2006 in Melbourne when she happened to sit next to me near the river end of the defunct Olympic park.
We got pumped 46-4 that day, yet somehow it all seemed to be something she took in her stride and this radiated out to those around her to the point where we were actually enjoying it despite the pummeling the scoreboard copped that day.
We kept in contact after that and I offered her a bed whenever the Tigers came to Melbourne from then on, which was just the once the following year - a close loss in round 1.
I caught up with Kay at several Leichhardt games after that, and it was always the part of the day I found myself looking forward to the most - a simple chat with a remarkable human. The many phone calls and texts over the years added to the real admiration I had of a remarkable lady I feel very lucky to have gotten to know…
Kay was simply a pleasure to be around, the links she had with the club, the knowledge of the history and the simple fact that she was just so nice.
We love you, we'll miss you and Balmain boys don't cry, but I'll be damned if plenty of us haven't been cutting up onions.
Thanks Kay. Condolences to the family.
