Result not too far off: Mick Potter
Coach Mick Potter is confident the tide will soon turn for Wests Tigers despite the team sitting on the bottom of the Telstra Premiership ladder.
Speaking ahead of the team’s final training session this morning before tomorrow night’s clash against Cronulla at Allianz Stadium, Potter dismissed talk of was it a case of panic stations already after just eight rounds.
Wests Tigers sit on four points in 16th position and are two wins outside the top eight.
“We have got a method and we are trying to push ourselves though it the best way we can,’’ he said.
“The players are applying themselves the best they can and I don’t think we are too far off it getting a result soon.”
Potter said the Sharks would be just as tough to beat without captain Paul Gallen who suffered a knee injury in their win over Newcastle last Sunday.
Wests Tigers have seven established first graders unavailable through injury in one of the worst injury tolls in the club’s history.
“We are just worrying (more) about ourselves. We know their threats and their dangers and we are going to account for those,’’ Potter added.
“This week it is more about what we do and how we apply for the full 80 minutes.”
Potter said his players had been honest and open with themselves about their form and disappointing start to the season.
“They have also been honest with how they are going individually. I think Robbie and Woodsy have been outstanding with what their contribution has been to the team,’’ he said.
“We have got other people playing okay but playing okay is sometimes not good enough. We need everyone to be at their best.”
Head to Head
Played 21: Wests Tigers 15, Cronulla 5, Drawn 1
At Allianz Stadium: First clash
