Result not too far off: Mick Potter

Coach Mick Potter is confident the tide will soon turn for Wests Tigers despite the team sitting on the bottom of the Telstra Premiership ladder.

Speaking ahead of the team’s final training session this morning before tomorrow night’s clash against Cronulla at Allianz Stadium, Potter dismissed talk of was it a case of panic stations already after just eight rounds.

Wests Tigers sit on four points in 16th position and are two wins outside the top eight.

“We have got a method and we are trying to push ourselves though it the best way we can,’’ he said.

“The players are applying themselves the best they can and I don’t think we are too far off it getting a result soon.”

Potter said the Sharks would be just as tough to beat without captain Paul Gallen who suffered a knee injury in their win over Newcastle last Sunday.

Wests Tigers have seven established first graders unavailable through injury in one of the worst injury tolls in the club’s history.

“We are just worrying (more) about ourselves. We know their threats and their dangers and we are going to account for those,’’ Potter added.

“This week it is more about what we do and how we apply for the full 80 minutes.”

Potter said his players had been honest and open with themselves about their form and disappointing start to the season.

“They have also been honest with how they are going individually. I think Robbie and Woodsy have been outstanding with what their contribution has been to the team,’’ he said.

“We have got other people playing okay but playing okay is sometimes not good enough. We need everyone to be at their best.”

We do have the wood on the Sharks, but damn, still a struggle to pick us for a win on Friday night.

Well, more often than not over the years, we've beaten ourselves rather than the opposition doing it.

I like Potter. I reckon he'll work wonders with us over time. Not a coach in the NRL could have this team winning with the injuries we've had. To be in as many matches as we have been is amazing in itself.

I agree, the signs are positive.

Just re-read this story and am wondering what the new time line is,as am I sure its not going to happen this Friday. Seriously though it would be great if the team had a buy into these comments. :unamused:

I think they have to STOP worrying about 'the win' and break it down to the processes required throughout a game… completing their defence/attack plans as outlined by the boss (Potter)- When players are jumping on social media stating 'got close, but just can't jag that Win' then their is something wrong with the mental side of how the teams approaching it all!!

That is exactly right we need to settle down a little and focus on the little things we can improve on and go from there. The wins will come at some stage (I hope) but there is no point saying how hard we are working and how close we are getting. The players need to be honest with themselves look at there weaknesses work on them quietly without constantly talking to the media. Less words more actions.

Dear MR Potter u got to stop playing with ur self and wake up and smell defeat, it smells like shi* and it feels terrible and the only way it goes away is either u quitt or u sack all the bluggers
