Why NSW persist with Gidley I will never know. Apart from coming off the bench at hooker and having an impact, he's done bugger all in Origin and has gifted Qld a couple of tries over the last couple of years. It's no secret that Stuart also likes boring, grinding game plans and if that's how he thinks NSW will win, then he's handing them their 6th series win in a row.

100% nailed it willow!

Stuart cannot coach attacking football and we are setting ourselves up for a double hat-trick of embarassing losses!!!

geez 3 hours in a hotel room with those blokes …. must have been riveting stuff

way to go painting yourself into a corner if any of these blokes have ordinary starts to the season and don't deserve their spots .

These blokes have as much chance of missing out as Thurston, Lockyer, Inglis, Smith and Slater have missing out for Queensland.

The problem with bringing in alot of guys who were in the past seasons squads is the mentality they have preached of "keeping the squad together". The reality is it is a group of blokes who get along well and enjoy getting on the turps with one another. That doesn't cut it anymore

I think it is better to keep them fighting for their spot instead of saying ok this is the core group we will have. It makes them take their position for granted. The basic point is pick people who have shown over the season that they have potential and they can perform like that. All this crap about "built for origin", "core group of players" I reckon is a load of bs. Seriously, how hard can it be to pick in-form players?

If the coach thinks he can pick player X, player Y and make them perform together and build a combination out of that, then thats fine but over the last 5 years, all we have seen is in-form players being ignored and thus NSW losing.

However, there are players who deserve another go like Robbie :smiley:

We are losing because we are chopping and changing the wrong players. We've seen some guys come in and do okay, then get dumped, while others have shocker after shocker and keep getting picked. If they kept the guys who do well, and dump the mongs, we would be closer to a stable side, like Queensland are. Heck barring injuries you could predict the team they'll pick now and the season hasn't even started.

To be honest though I do like the fact we now have a coach who actually gives a stuff about origin, not just some club coach who will work the job for the 2 month window like we had in Bellamy and Murray in seasons past. The core players they've got at this meeting would be good inclusions in the side, they just need to pick a dozen more players who are in good form come origin, and we will actually have a decent shot.

Looking at the potential of a NSW Squad depth isnt really there in key positions

FB: Hayne, Gidley, Dugan, Coote, B Stewart
Wing: M Gordon, Uate, B Morris, K Gordon
Centres: Lawrence, Jennings, Idris, J Morris, Champion, Reddy

Halves: Carney, Campese, Pearce, Wallace, Hodkinson

Props: Douglas, Snowden, Weyman, Leoroyd Lahrs,White, Mannah, Gibbs, Galloway, Grant
Back Row: Gallen, Bird, Watmough, Heighington, Lewis, Creagh, Waterhouse, G Stewart, Laffranchi, Minichiello, Young
Hookers: Farah, Ennis

Apart from that there isn't much youth to pick from to build up to in the future

I like the Core meeting Idea, I have used it in corporate life prior to big plays.

It is a powerful feeling when you're in the room and your handing down or being handed that belief and responsibility up front. Im sure these guys will all step up.

There is a decent spine there in those players attending and I would certainly have all in the top 17 (Injury and form permitting)

Gallen Capt, Hayne FB, Carney and Pierce the halves. Add Robbie Farah, some speed and some size and again we are on the way back.
