Rip Richie

A class act throughout his innings on and off the field … RIP Ritchie .

I know he'd been sick. Combine that with his age and this shouldn't be that much of a shock, but Richie was one of those larger than life characters that you felt would be around forever.

Vale Richie….so sad marvellous innings.....Cricket died a little today....

How I know there's not a God reason #4871:

Richie went before James Brayshaw.

Hail Richie, hail the great man.

What a crap start and finish to a great summer of cricket with Hughes and Richie going either side of it :frowning:

Another sad chapter that comes to an end out of this will be the 12th man. I know it was probably unlikely there would be another one after Tony passed, but the Captain passing ends it well and truly. Somehow i don't see there being any 12th man albums with the new breed of idiots that have been given the torch.

Hard to believe Richie is gone, in a sense its almost like losing your own grandfather, as silly as that might sound. We've had him around all our lives.

Billy said after Boned that it would be his last.

With Tony and Richie gone there's no way he could go on evem if he wanted to. The channel nine commentary team is a parody of itself now anyway.

It's a sad day when you're looking forward to hearing from Chappelli because everyone else is so damn terrible.

Agreed and i think every Australian kid grew up with Richie Benaud commentating the cricket on nine.I lived in England for a while and he commentated there also.A true legend.Thought old richie might bring up a 100 in the game of life but 84 isnt a bad knock all the same.Richie Benaud lives on deep in the heart of many Australians and cricket followers around the world.

Well his mother lived till she was 100, so it was in his genes to live that long. I fell off my seat when his mum died, it made me think of Mr Burns and his mum

Cricket will be the biggest loser with the loss of Richie, his knowledge and commentary were second to none…..

He was an honourable cricketer and human being....R.I.P.Richie Benaud...

Legend is thrown around too easy these days but Richie was a true legend as a player and then as a commentor.

He was the voice of cricket and will never be replaced.

He had a great innings. Well played Sir.
