RIP to a great man - Phil Hughes

Was down the south coast yesterday and the local radio stations were asking drivers to have their lights on during the day as a sign of respect for Phil hughes. The number of vehicles that had their lights on was quite amazing.
RIP Phil Hughes, a champion cricketer and champion bloke. #408 always rembered.

How whimsical life is - first our little brother Phillip Hughes and now a cricket umpire dies in Isreal after getting hit by a cricket ball.

An umpire and former captain of Israel's national cricket team died on Saturday after being hit in the jaw by a ball, the country's cricket association said.

His death comes just two days after Australian batsman Phillip Hughes died of a severe head injury after being hit by a bouncer in a New South Wales match in Sydney.

Israeli police ruled out foul play in the incident that led to the death of the umpire, named by the Israel Cricket Association as 55-year-old Hillel Oscar, in the southern port city of Ashdod.

ICA chief Naor Gudker told AFP that Saturday's game was the last in the national league season.

"We're simply in shock," he said from the hospital where Oscar was pronounced dead.

The international umpire was both a former member and captain of the country's national team, Gudker said.

Police said they were investigating his death.

"We know a ball was hit in his direction, he tried to escape it, he fell – what happened there is still being investigated," Gudker told AFP.

"The entire Israel Cricket Association and players bow their heads in his memory. He was a wonderful man, cricketer, and umpire," Gudker said.

It's been a very tough week for the sport. Watching highlights of the Kiwis-Pakistan test is just sad. No excitement when playing for your country. Who would have ever thought that could be ok.

Well fellow forumers and sports lovers,I did what Ink said and put out the bat with Sydney Sports Academy cap on top…
Now I don't want anyone to be disappointed with me but I didn't have my old cricket bat,it was stolen when my house got broken into about 10 yrs ago...
So good old TT went up to the shed and cut one out of a piece of old timber he had...on it I wrote RIP Phil 63 N.O.....
I hope this will substitute as a remembrance to Phil........

I coach a young cricket side in the Concord area. The boys started the day with the opposing team and parents surrounding the pitch in a symbol of remembrance.

One of my boys then scored 63 and retired.

It was a very touching and emotional day for all.

Can't believe that little prick who stole a young boys bat from his front yard as a mark of respect for Phil Hughes. We are living with scum - thank God its only a minority.

What happened with his remains?

Spin out to think the day he was playing for a spot in the test side, he'd be in his grave when that test was scheduled to start.

Still feels so surreal. Don't think it will sink in for a while.

The healing process begins now. I wonder how its going to affect the Aussies leading into, and during the first test.

Look I think this will have a massive effect on Clarke

**I have got this feeling he may retire after the World Cup**

Big call. You gotta understand that its still so raw on everybody. Nobody will ever forget him, but life will go on. The question is when does that saying take affect. I heard that the first test is optional for the players, but i'd be surprised if any of them sit it out.

Total class from both sides

Would be quite understandable if Abbott didn't go

And despite it being an accident , some anger from Hughes family would be understandable

Extremely sad day from an Australian cricket standpoint , but has been handled by Cricket Australia , the players and officials exceptionally well
