Robbie Farah..Discussion Thread.....

Am I the only one excited about the fact ballin and Farah will be on the same side?

In a time where the number on your back means less and less, having the work rated of both Farah and ballin might mean that we don't have the lapses in concentration in defence.

I do think that Farah has one of the best defensive work rates in the league. With ballin there as well it means that it doesn't entirely depend on him.

If he doesn't have to complete the same amount of tackles he will have more energy in attack, if Taylor prefers just quick service to the halves ballin is probably better at that and when Robbie can see something he can involve himself or can add in his kicking game which is still the best tigers have got.

People need to stop the thinking of I don't think Farah / ballin wouldn't make a good lock. Just because they are wearing a number doesn't mean they need to play like a traditional lock. It is about improving both the defence of the team, service to the halves and still keeping the attack and kicking that Farah provides.

Cut it out, Bob.
If you get involved in this thread without taking sides and then start trying to talk sense you'll just confuse everybody.

cktiger, thank you , thank you, really, really needed that laugh!!
So much vitriol on this thread - for the sake of club morale let's give it a break please. Or do I presume too much, that we are all interested in club morale?

Funny CT.
And Bob, I agree with you. I know one of our more knowledgeable posters completely dismissed the prospect of Farah wearing the lock jersey, but I fail to see why its not worth a try. I think Ink is on the same track with his reference to Farah becoming a Dallas Johnson.

Good post. It wasn't that long ago that the thought of a half and 5/8 playing left and right seemed ridiculous. On the other hand, Taylor doesn't strike me as an innovator.

I think your assumption that club morale is affected by comments on a blog is way off the mark. You're giving the comments of forum contributors (me included) far too much significance.

Comments do reflect disquiet and disapproval among some fans/members so the club needs to know that exists.

I am more interested in my morale as a WT long time WT member and fan, but my comments here have zero impact on the playing ability or performance of the team.

Unfortunately I'm not so sure these days LCA.
Knowing a young current first grader and a 20s player from another club… I'm told many players seek out comments about themselves on social media despite being advised not to....they've grown up with Social media.
And seeing the impact first hand here of what negative comments here can have on a players parent.... It's not good....it's never good.
Mainstream media is one thing, coaches used to tell players not to read the papers or watch sports programs ... Social media is another and can be so destructive... Just the way of the world these days

True they have more to deal with these days but that is one of the reasons they make a fortune in cash. You don't get paid $1 million a season just to turn up on Sunday and play footy, the money is for everything that goes with it and for the attraction it brings

Interesting article. Goes against what Benji said a couple weeks ago. Did somebody get in his ear? hmmm

St George Illawarra players back incumbent Dragons hooker Mitch Rein instead of Robbie Farah move

ST George Illawarra has been linked to Robbie Farah, but Dragons players seem content with the hooker they’ve got.

With Farah on the outer at Wests Tigers and rumoured to be looking for a home in 2016, the Wollongong club is one of several in the NRL said to be interested in his services.

The message, however, clearly hasn’t made its way down to the playing group.

They have thrown their support behind incumbent No. 9 Mitch Rein.

Benji Marshall, who has a long history with Farah and considers him a close friend, doesn’t see the need for a second (or third) hooker while Rein is wearing the Red V.

“(Farah is) a class player,” Marshall said of his former teammate.

“The problem is we’ve got a class hooker as well in Mitch Rein.

End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar.

“If Mitch is at the club I think he’s got a great future, he’s a future Origin star.

“If Robbie joins the club that’s another hooker on the books.”

Utility back Peter Mata’utia agrees the club is sufficiently stocked in the hooking department.

Aside from Rein, the Dragons have recruited Josh McCrone from Canberra, who may be used to complement the former rake off the bench.

Mata’utia says Farah would be surplus to needs with Rein already holding a mortgage on the jumper.

“He’s a great player, he’s an Origin hooker, but I don’t know much about Robbie,” Mata’utia told foxsports.com.au.

“I’m happy with Mitchy, he’s a great talent.

“I thought he should have made the Origin squad last year.

“But Mitch is the future of the club and I’ll back him any day of the week.”

Statistics compiled by Fox Sports Lab from the 2015 NRL season paint two very different players when comparing Farah and Rein.

Rein shaded the more experienced man in linebreaks (7 to 2) and tackle busts (31 to 19) last season, suggesting a better running game from dummy half.

This could, however, be contributed to the tighter rein held on Farah by Tigers coach Jason Taylor this year.

Farah also averaged almost three more kicks per game than Rein.

But the one stat that has worked against Rein throughout his NRL career lies in the “average minutes per game” column.

While the diminutive rake has long voiced his desire to play 80 minutes, Dragons coach Paul McGregor insisted on carrying a second hooker on the bench.

As a result, Rein averaged just 59 minutes a game in 2015.

Mata’utia, though, is confident Rein could run rings around most hookers in the game.

“He’s probably one of the fittest at the club, so there’s no doubt Mitchy could play 80 minutes,” Mata’utia said.

“I think he did it the last couple of games last year.”

Marshall and Farah played side by side at the Tigers through most of their careers, but the former insists he has no idea which way Farah is leaning for 2016.

He hasn’t received any indication his mate will land in Wollonogong.

“He doesn’t say anything. I asked him the other night and he said I’ll find out,” Marshall said.

“I said mate, ‘I’ve known you 20 years and you don’t want to tell me’.

“He said how good would it be to finish our careers together, and I said you’ll be finished way before me.”

That's exactly the same stuff Benji said a few weeks ago about Rein. Sure It's not the same article? It's almost word for word with the quotes but just added Mata'utia's comments in.

Absolutely agree - when fans can get emotional and defensive about players that they dont even know, can only imagine the impact of reading something negative and inaccurate (which many of the comments are on these type of forums) written about a relative.
I too have been concerned about the types of comments written about the players and how it affects them. On social media they are often discussed like they are commodities devoid of any human emotion. They are open to such vicious criticism these days that can be relentless - to think that they are not effected, is like sticking your head in the sand.
And you wonder why they band together? Players these days have to develop a new level of emotional toughness - just as important as the toughness they need to compete on the field.

GNR, is there any possibility of answering my question in my post on the previous page
I'd be really interested to see it

Wonder what our sponsors are thinking about this circus going on for this long,
Wonder if they had a refund clause added to their contract
They must love seeing the Coach trying to shaft the Captain, before he even found out if anyone could still afford to buy him.

You said this as if they didn't know what was going to happen, yet they signed on after this storm erupted

Also, another thing i forgot to pick up, was you talking about a club not being able to afford him. Funny that Sam Burgess, Dylan Walker and Martin Taupau have come on the market after the season ended and have had no problem being snapped up.

So much about frequently expressed opinion that Marshall and Farah cannot see each other.

I said this before. So much stuff that you hear from people that supposedly are in the know or have some special inside information is palava.

If Benji and Robbie get along maybe Robbie gets along with a lot of the players. Just a thought.

Looks like Robbie doesn't 'fit in' anywhere but here…

Makes me wonder why he asked for a release with ridiculous conditions after so long digging in adamant he wants to be a 1 Club man...If it was because he was treated badly due to the RG comment or being asked to look elsewhere that was clarified before he asked for the release by both Taylor and Pascoe ....

Hope he kills it....

I wonder if the shock of what he was told at first made him dig in, now he's had some time to stew over it, perhaps he's had a change of heart?

With this drama seemingly done and dusted I really believe that Wests Tigers will see a rejuvenated Farah, clubman and player, throughout 2016.

I hope so too - that's I commented earlier bring out the silver cutlery…and even the dancing girls in gold and black now that Robbie Farah is back, Robbie, hit them high hit them low and one extra for Justin Pascoe
