The impressive retention drive of Wests Tigers has continued with the re-signing of half-back Robert Lui for the next two years.
Off contract this season, Lui has agreed to a new two-year deal that keeps him at Wests Tigers until the end of 2012.
>
Following impressive performances for Wests Tigers in the U20s competition in 2009, Lui made his first grade debut against Cronulla Sharks in round 23\. In his three first grade games, Lui showed enough ability to stamp himself as a player of the future.
He then played a major role in Wests Tigers qualifying for the Toyota Cup grand final. He was also named the Toyota Cup five-eighth of the year.
A full-time member of the Wests Tigers NRL squad this season, Lui is eligible to play in the Toyota Cup competition in 2010 after turning 20 on February 23.
The talented half/five-eighth is now focusing on establishing a solid halves partnership with Benji Marshall.
Wests Tigers Coach Tim Sheens was delighted the club has secured one of its most exciting young prospects.
“We see Robbie as an integral part of the team. He has a very bright future,’’ Sheens said.
“He still has plenty to learn but he is naturally gifted, is quick, has great ball skills, a good kicking game, and knows how to read the play.”
The re-signing of Lui comes on top of NRL superstar Benji Marshall becoming a ‘Tiger for Life’ last week. Meanwhile, new Wests Tigers signing Lote Tuiqiri will start training next week.

Geez ….have to adjust the contract list......Again

2012 is starting to Shape Up....Marshall, Moltzen, Lui,,,,,,,,,,Taumata.. 😕

What position is Roberto going to play, after Blake Lazarus secures the halfback spot fulltime…..Lock, I guess, after he learns how to tackle!

Moltzen must be feeling the heat....and will be hit with the WT Ulitity tag

Don't know if this signing makes sense … to be honest I would've waited a few rounds to see if he's got the goods to stick it out in first grade. We have junior talent coming out of our ears ... Moltzen, Lui and Ayshford are all signed up til the end of 2012\. Pretty sure Lazarus' contract expires at the end of this year (?) as he re-signed for one year last year IIRC.

The best player in NYC last year and people are questioning tying him up. All other clubs would be salivating if he had remained off-contract.

True that, good move by WTs imo

From the very few games I saw this guy play in 09 I have my doubts too…very serious doubts...but he comes with huge wraps from the u20s games I didnt see,so it makes sense to lock him in during these key developmental years to see if hes got it or not.
I say well done to management, whom Im sure will have options /alternatives

Very good news i rate him highly as a player. With more first grade experience he will be another player our opponents will have to mark closely

I guess this means we should cut all our NYC players once they are too old :unamused:

under 20's is more like touch footy, id like to see how he handles first grade ,first.

Im sure the size and terms of the contract reflect the fact that he is largely untested.

its good for Robert LUI that he has secured until end of 2012.
only time will tell, if he has a good season in first grade.
he only had limited time in 1st grade last year.
won't make any judgement until he has been there for at least 4 or more games in a row.

This guy has huge potential no question …whether he is ready this year is debatable ,I have issues over his defence for over 80 minutes as for his signing I would take the punt he is a talent .

the club just can't win, the kid can still play NYC this year, he is under 20 and one of the hottest half prospects running around, signing him up for another 2yrs should be viewed a good thing, the kid is 19 playing halfback in the NRL not many make it a success at that age let alone at halfback, in a few more years he will reach his prime and based on what I have seen would prefer him at his peak at the Tigers than against us.

Another Positive day of WT press - Great job

Well done on lui..

DO IT GEO!

and post on the front page pls.

Hopefully Lui is only warming the halfback spot for Tim Moltzen until Lote finds his feet over the first few rounds! Tim deserves his shot at half because of his past efforts, Lui needs to earn his stripes! Tim is a GAME BREAKER Hurry up and find your feet Lote!

Great to see Robert Lui signed till 2012 season. As someone has already said other clubs will move quick to get this bloke. This should give him the confidence to play in the big time….....
