Roosters Sack Smith

A disgraceful decision really but coming from the rooters this doesn't surprise me. Smith was bought in to oversee a shift in the squad towards youth. The club noted Smith had a good record with development. Results were never going to be flash but blind freddy can see he had the club heading in the right direction. So to "relieve" him of his duties is pretty harsh but typical of that club who show no loyalty or patience.

Don't know about them heading in the right direction - they've been pretty dismal this year. If they didn't get two games a year against us they'd be close to wooden spooners.

I don't understand why jason taylor or any coach would take on the chooks for only one year - its common knowledge the chhooks will throw everything at bellamy in 2014 so even signing a 3yr deal to coach them now would be shakey and extremely disruptive.

With his record against us he would have been the greatest coach in NRL history if the Tigers were his opposition every week.

Poor Smithy gets sacked more times than a B grade quarterback! Must play on his emotions surely? If I got sacked from my job that many times, I would probably become unemployable, but he just takes it in his stride and moves on. I wouldn't mind getting him here - he would ruffle a few feathers that's for sure, but our feathers are in need of some ruffling.

More of a worry is that if the Tigers board act to get rid of Sheens, there will be one less candidate out there to take over after someone takes the Chooks' job. Unless of course Noycey poaches Tim to Bondi??

Well we do need a cleanout and there isn't a better hatchet man in the business then Smithy. The guys ruthless

JT would be a shoe in to be his replacement

or Matthew Elliot ?

Not surprising really. I wonder if it will ruffle feathers of the "powers that be" at the Tigers?

So the Roosters and Warriors both have poor seasons, dump coaches, us? hopefully the board will grow a pair

Many on this forum argue Sheens should be kept as there are no better coaches available. Smith gets sacked and within hours the following names are linked to the job:

Anderson
Bellamy
Elliott
Taylor

Yep, there are just no other better options than Sheens.

Anderson would be a risk worth taking. Overlook his eels stint for obvious reasons. Bellamy's manager says he'll won't be leaving before his contract is out. Elliot, i've never rated. Taylor i do rate. And given his lack of serious experience i.e. the other candidates, i'd still be willing to give another shot. Add to that Royce Simmons. Hasn't done too shabby a job in the SL. Nathan Brown likewise - if we want someone a little younger.

I agree with all of that except Simmons he was terrible at the panthers and while he was here he was next to useless plus he got sacked from the sl.a big no to royce

It's a tough one, Smith is a building coach, one of the best around, but he doesn't take that next step. With SBW coming in for 1 year and Maloney arriving too, next year they have a premiership winning team, and they need a coach who can win a comp. It's a funny one, because they are halfway through a rebuilding phase, in 2014 without any big pick ups, they may not even be a top 8 side. They are the one side that I just can't figure out for 2013.

What does that mean? he was there for 2 yrs and one yr got them to a gf from an impossible position, whats to overlook?

SYDNEY ROOSTERS today appointed Trent Robinson as their coach for the next three years.
Robinson, a former assistant coach at the club, is currently coaching French club Catalan Dragons in the English Super League. It is understood he had another year to run on his contract there, but he has obviously negotiated a release.
The Roosters sacked Brian Smith as coach on Tuesday with a year left to run on his contract. The team has had two poor seasons in a row after making the grand final under Smith in 2010\. Robinson was an assistant coach to Smith that year and left at the end of it to start with Catalans.
Robinson has long held an ambition to coach in the NRL and now he will realise that. There had been speculation about Smith’s future for a number of weeks before the Roosters sacked him, and presumably the club’s management had identified Robinson as a possible alternative well ahead of this week in case they decided to move on Smith.
The appointment of Robinson ends speculation about whether the Roosters would have gone in hard to try to sign Craig Bellamy as coach for 2014 and beyond. Bellamy remains contracted to Melbourne until the end of next season. The Roosters were considering whether to appoint a stop-gap coach for next year and gamble on signing Bellamy after that, but have obviously decided that was too risky.
There was no chance of Bellamy coming to the Roosters a year early. Storm chief executive Ron Gauci said in today’s Herald that Bellamy would be staying next season and that the Storm were keen to extend his deal.
Catalan are headed for the Super League finals, so Robinson will head back to Australia when their campaign is over.
The Roosters issued a media release this afternoon, which pointed out that Robinson, in his first season with Catalans, had taken the team from last the previous season to sixth and was named Super League Coach of the Year, and that the team was well-placed to ‘‘go all the way’’ this season.
The release continued: ‘‘Roosters Chairman Nick Politis was enthusiastic about the appointment.
‘‘We are extremely pleased that Trent will be joining the Roosters after agreeing to terms for the next three years. We believe that he is the ideal candidate to take the Roosters forward with regard to what we aim to achieve in terms of success,’’ said Mr Politis.
‘‘Trent was a key contributor to the Roosters’ success in 2010 and while he is still a relatively young coach, he already has pedigree and experience gained over his time as an assistant coach in the NRL and as a head coach in the Super League.
‘‘We wish Trent well with the Catalan Dragons finals campaign and look forward to welcoming him back to the Sydney Roosters ahead of the commencement of the club’s 2013 pre-season.’’
A player in the Roosters’ junior ranks from 1995-1998, Robinson’s coaching career began with France’s Toulouse Olympique in 2005\. He was assistant coach with the Newcastle Knights from 2007-2009 before joining the Roosters in 2010 as the assistant coach in charge of defence.

I hadn't even heard of the bloke a week ago, but what I've read about him this week has been very positive. He's up against it this year, with Maloney and Sonny coming in they'll be expected to fire from the word go.
