Roosters Team

The Knights made the Roosters look a bit better than they were last week, particularly in the first half when the Knights had bugger all possession. At halftime the Roosters had 65% possession. Not hard to see why they racked up a decent lead. Mason will certainly run hard if you let him, but if the Tigers show good line speed in D, and Ellis and Galea hit him hard early, he'll go quiet as he so often does. Tigers have enough speed around the ruck to cause the Roosters plenty of problems and it will also be interesting to see where Minichello defends. He generally doesn't have a lot of traffic directed at him.

Mini at 5/8th is an interesting move. Strong runner and will probably mean they will look for heaps of offloads.

Their attitude will have to be great but I think they will be a little flat after last week. They have less to play for so the pressure will be on us.

Speed in the halves is always hard to contain and defend against. Mini and Pearce have buckets of it. Limit the go forward and Wests should give themselves a chance.

The Roosters will have confidence, self belief and now seemed like a focused footy side. Easts have lost a lot of games this year through poor execution rather than anything else, even though their defence has been atrocious for most of it.

I'm sure the Tigers will not under estimate their desperate foundation rivals who are keen to avoid the Wooden Spoon and send Freddy out a winner before the seasons out. Wests showed how much they wanted the win against Manly. Now they have to prove yet against against a hungry Easts outfit. It doesn't get any tougher.

Well said gobbs, i couldn't agree more.
Another good start is imperative here and we must dominate the ruck…...or else.

I hope the players aren't thinking about smashing the roosters. If so i'd be real worried. The key here is to play well. If we do that the class should come through the other end. I said that if we beat Manly it puts us in a good position for the run home, now we're in that position. I'd be horrified if the boys miss out on sunday.

So they FINALLY win a game, beating a top 5 team and then they change their halves… LMAO.

Epic failllllllll pending.

Fitler seems to change the halves every week. Nearly the whole Roosters squad has had a crack at 5/8 this year -Tansey, Anasta, Sa… Mason will probably wear 6 next week.

Minichiello in hot seat for Roosters
August 5, 2009 - 3:49PM

The only thing five-eighth about the way former Test fullback Anthony Minichiello intends to play on Sunday will be the No.6 on his back.

Minichiello has been thrust into the playmaking hotseat by default, with the 2005 Golden Boot winner forced to take what was on offer after coach Brad Fittler decided against changing his back three for the clash with the surging Wests Tigers at the Sydney Football Stadium.

The 29-year-old made a name for himself as one of the game's toughest fullbacks before being slowed by persistent back injuries, and he was forced to dig deep into the memory bank to recall his last run at pivot.

"I played under-14s for my junior club. I went alright I think," said Minichiello, who has been limited to just three games this year due to an ankle injury.

"A good mate of mine - the halfback in that side - gave me a call yesterday and he said 'do you need any tips, I can be at training tomorrow?'

"Freddy (Fittler) and I had a chat, last week the boys went really well and had a great win and he didn't want to disrupt the fullback or the back three."

But while Minichiello will run out wearing the No.6, he doesn't expect to spend too much time at second receiver.

"I am not going to play a traditional five-eighth role, I'm going to switch between centre and five-eighth and play as an extra fullback in attack," he said.

"(Fittler) said there was opening at five-eighth and I suppose I can't demand where I want to play.

"I've been out for a while so I said 'mate, put me wherever you want, I'll have a go'.

"I'm a fullback - I class myself as a fullback and that's my position but I'm just filling in for an open spot at this stage."

Minichiello at least has the chance to get some useful tips at playing five-eighth, with Fittler one of the best to ever play the position.

The last-placed Roosters registered a morale-boosting win against Newcastle last week which gave them some hope of avoiding the wooden spoon.

Most of the attack against the Knights ran through halfback Mitchell Pearce, and Minichiello said he was expecting much of the same against the Tigers.

"I will let 'Pearcey' run the side and I will push up around the ruck and support the forwards and give him some options if I can," Minichiello said.

"I'm not going to try and be tricky and do all the ball playing stuff."

u can not take roosters game vs knights as an indication of how they r going. any other team would have thumped them. they lifted n played for fitler coz they wanted to win it 4 him 2 rub it in smiths face. also mason had a great game to stick it up smiths nose.
the roosters wil have a different attitude vs the tigers. they will not be as fired up.
in saying that, we should not take them lightly.
i hope all tigers supporters come out n cheer the tigers on this sunday.
kids under 16 get in free so lets make it a pro-tigers crowd.

No different to what SHEENS does with the tigers…

Mini just said on 2KY's Big Sports Breakfast that he will be sharing the 5/8 role with Setaimata Sa.

Some Journo's who have watched the train are saying that Setaimata Sa trained completely at 5/8.

What I've heard, Sa will line up at 5/8 and Mini in the centres. Jones will probably go to 5/8 when he comes on and Sa will shift to the back row.
