Rothfield Tips the Tigers To Come 10th in 2010

Rothfield has predicted the Tigers to come tenth in season 2010\. He answered a readers question about the tigers and this is what he said.

**I’m not saying they can’t make the top eight…of course they can. But when you’re asked to pick your top 16, someone’s got to miss out. I worry about the Tigers in the forwards. Having Liam Fulton back won’t make a huge difference. I think half-back is still a problem because I don’t know if Robert Lui is up to this level over 26 rounds. I’m not as big a fan of Benji Marshall as everyone else. He’ll play sensationally well in half a dozen games - but what he does in the other 20 worries me. I’m not sure how Lote will fit back into rugby league. I don’t think Mitch Brown did a lot at Cronulla. Like most years, the Tigers will be in contention for the finals - but they’ll need to get a good bounce of the football - by that I mean have a bit of luck go their way.**

Do you agree with him or not?

Rothfield is a sharks supporter so he has obviously put them above us which really means he thinks we will come ninth.
Injuries will be a massive factor like they are all for all 16 teams. If we remain untroubled with injuries and we get a fair go with the whistle blowers we will make the top 8 for the first time since 2005\. My tip…5th, and thats unbiased

Rothfield? Is that the red cheeked idiot on the telegraph? His opinion doesn't mean a thing to be honest simply because his tabloid's relationship with our club is virtually non exsistent. Since they tried to bait Benji into a pub fight a few years back, we pretty much don't talk to them anymore, hence why you only ever see Tiger stories in the herald.

What you're saying is all true about Rothfield but i think his points are actually on the money.

For me it all comes down to weather Marshall has 20 diamond games and 6 pebble games or vice versa.

His points are valid but it all comes down to opinion in the end. The display in the Foundation cup probably made it easier.

But in the same breath a near full strength Eels side got pumped by a rag tag Panthers outfit .

In the end trial form and opinions count for little once the first kick off in the comp. Than it comes down to the form of your team, the opposition you are playing that week, the injury toll you carry, the suspensions you have and the ways the reffs interperet the rules

….and how Marshall plays..hehehe

seriously though...what you say is all true Smegs.

Fair comments IMO.

Then again, I really couldn't care less what an insignificant muppet like Rothfield has to say. Anyone who regularly reads the Telegraph has too low an IQ to realise that toilet paper of a newspaper appeals to the lowest common denominator.

I tend to agree with Rothfield, their is 16 teams and if you have to rank them based on playing rosters and past form somewhere around 10th would be realistic. His comments on Marshall, well i thought last year for the most part was pretty good. The forwards to me dont look any stronger than last year even with the signing of Cayles, the ongoing tinkering with the no1 and 7 is madness.

On a positive note, their is enough class spread through the roster to do anything but they will need plenty of luck from the injury god.

rothfield is entitled to his opinion. but i cant take him seriously if he has his team cronulla in the top 8\. Loses all credibility in IMHO.

I reckon he is pretty close to the mark with the reply to that question.
Although i'd love to see him proven wrong.

Agreed. I see no light at the end of the 2010 tunnel for the sharks.

Thats it, anything he write now in relation to the top 8 has no cedibility as Cronulla will do little better than last year based on what we know of them so far.

I don't necessarily disagree on his thoughts on us. I think a few people are expecting a lot in here and i hope they don't expect to make the 8 regardless. Sure we've recruited well but keep in mind other teams have recruited well this off season too. Penrith and Souths especially. The bottom rung of the top 8 will be a dog fight and i expect we'll be in the battle for it.

Well at least 10th is an improvement on where all the "experts" reckoned we would finish last year…

Phil rothfeild is a joke! Just over a week ago he had Greg bird on the bench of his best ever indigenous team ever over David peachy, Nathan blacklock, ewen mcgrady, and scott gale just to name a few! I've never listened to him, and never will! If he's picking us to come tenth, I'm glad!

If we have Moltzen in the 7 jersey from round 1 we will be in the top 8 for sure.

Absolutely for sure.

Fonzie wants to mould him into a fullback though which means I will bet my life we do not make the top 8 with Lui at 7.

Absolutely no chance. Lets bring blind Freddy out again shall we ??

Lui needs more time to learn the trade as a NRL halfback. We dont need a _'Work in progress'_ rubbish quote from the Fonz after half a dozen unsuccessful rounds. I think its grossly unfair for his development to have him in the 7 jersey in 1st grade. The Fonz must play Lawrence in the centres or the wing and nowhere else. He needs to be running at a squillion miles an hour when the ball is in his hands at all times.

These are the facts as I see them. We have about 15 highly talented **1st grade** players. That is it.

If we get injuries we are stuffed. The chances of not getting injuries are extremely remote.

Fonz will experiment for the first 16 rounds with positions. I have no doubt about this. His experimentations will bring us unstuck unless he sticks with Moltzen at 7 all year long.

Time for a Bex, Ciao

Just made a few edits to what he really meant to say:

I’m … saying they can .... make the top eight...of course they can. But when you’re asked to pick your top 16, someone’s got to miss out........ the Tigers in the forwards ... Having Liam Fulton back ....... a huge difference. I think half-back is _not_ a problem because I ..... know .... Robert Lui is up to this level over 26 rounds. I’m .... a big .... fan of Benji Marshall as everyone else. He’ll play sensationally well in half a dozen games - .... what he does in the other 20 _will be even better_. I’m .... sure .... Lote will fit back into rugby league. I don’t think Mitch Brown did a lot at Cronulla _but will at the tigers_. Like most years, the Tigers will be in contention for the finals - but they’ll .... get a good bounce of the football - _and_ have a bit of luck go their way.

I think that Rothfields claims carry a lot of weight. Unfortunately a lot of his concerns I share.

I personally believe that we havn't recruited very well and to me Tuqiri is a massive question mark …. Lui must not start in the 7 - moltzen must not start in the 1, for pretty much exactly the same reasons.

We are sure to lose some players this year to SOO as well which will really slow us down through the middle rounds.

I believe it will be an uphill battle to make the 8 but we will succeed and finish 6th.

From there the world will be our oyster.....

First of all Rothfields a nutter…..who cares what he says' It's like Geyer tipping us for the spoon in '09 and Premiers this year.....

Secondly...Bug you started so positively.....then rather than focusing on the players your obsession with Sheens dragged you down.....better make it 2 Bex...
