LIVE GAME Round 1 vs Knights

Live Game Discussion
I must have watched a different match then. Not great but Knights struggled to pip us.
They did struggle, but that was due to their own incompetence than us forcing them into errors. I think they had at least 4 occasions where if someone caught the ball they score, but they dropped it every time. We were incredibly lucky in the first half and once fatigue set in we couldn't hang on anymore.
They totally dominated territory all match. With the exact same game plan that every team has used against us in the past 5 -10 years. And we were still helpless.
If Laui posts halfback this week we'll be in with a chance though

We were inept in so many facets of the game last week. Our execution on both sides of the ball was clunky; we clearly didn't train what was dished up. New combinations, too young and overawed by the situation. Expecting Luai to magic comething up out of nothing?

We lost the collision on most occasions and as a result had slow PTB with the ball in hand. On the other side of the pill, when we weren't missing tackles, we allowed Newcastle to get to their stomache and start the play about a second quicker than us.

We played against a set line with good speed and they played against a more compressed line that was less settled. The result - we were very sideways, especially Galvin and they tore us up the middle on a couple of occasions.

Some good lessons will have been identified out of the game - can we learn from them in a week? We have a long turnaround and some key players returning so we should be much better for the run and experience. I guess we will find out on Sunday if that is enough to turn around what was a very dissapointing first hit out!

3 things with game 1 are facts
- Our attack was disjointed and clunky as we scored a try in the 6th minute and never got over the line for the next 74 minutes .Missing Bula and Korisau and Galvin and Luai having their first game together contributed to this but our long running one out crash plays are still prevalent
- Our Defence mainly 2nd half was very poor ( 37 2nd half missed tackles)
-Knights error count was very high ,much higher than ours and because of this they only won 10-8
We can't afford another 50 missed tackle game and Benji you've had a long pre season to address this and FIX THIS !

Round 1 jitters for the knights. Round 1 clunkiness for us and players missing.
I think they will be much better this week - meant to be 38 degrees - we better drink our water!
