LIVE GAME Round 10 v Storm

Live Game Discussion
Shout out to all the diehards who.live and breathe this. Hang in there. We are yet another year away it seems and realistically about 3-5 more NRL players away from really contending.

Benji's system still clearly needs time to set as we have lost a few players and it has fallen apart.

Those injuries are an almighty strike of lightning on our season. I refuse to ignore what we saw in the first 7 games - that was not a fluke nor was it not inferior opposition. We were playing high quality football conducive to winning at any stage of the season. Why couldn't Luke L, Pole or Luai get injured instead?

I have a young daughter and she is the best use of my time and energy now so I don't dwell on the games like I used to...but I know plenty definitely do and I think this season must be heartbreaking as it promised so much when we were full-strength.

Hang in there.

It's 5 of the best players in the team, look what happened to the other NRL teams with even less quality missing.

Just look across the line up today and list who you would consider reserve graders, it adds up to a flogging.
We beat them…
I agree with you mate, which is why I said earlier in the year we hadn’t beaten anyone. We’d played barely anyone at full strength, didn’t seem overly considered here. Middle of the season was always going to test us as a club and we’re not aiming up real well.

To go from conceding 16 points a game to 48 is inexcusable.

We had 5 players out not 19.
Sorry champ but 3 out of your 4 spine player out! Hardly conducive to attack and defence. Name another side that this has happened too????
Also the pelican with the whistle was very one sided especially in the first 20 minutes. How many 6s and penalties did they get in that time?? And he was letting the drizzle do the same without punishment.

Not aiming up cos all our vital players are out! Don’t need to read the tea leaves to work that out.

It really sucks B, 2 weeks ago we were flying and now we look like we were sprayed with the old Pea Beu.

You can get away with 1 or 2 injuries and safely cover but 3 of your 4 spine players then your best prop, just throw in the towel.

Not looking forward to Manly.

Yo guys chill, this is all merely a deliberate ploy to remove our players from Origin contention and also make certain QLD players look really good before Origin so every other team becomes depleted and NSW also win Origin 💪

Now that I’ve calmed down a little my realistic take on the game is as follows:
1) i knew we couldn’t score enough points to win without a huge focus and effort in D.
2) all indications were that Storm were going to be up and would finally hit their straps
3) the team we fielded would probably not beat any team in the NRL. Without our 5 best players this season we had little chance.
4) the above said I was disappointed with the lack of aggression and intent from the outset. We have lost the driving D and line speed we had in early weeks and are starting to resemble the old Tigers. We are being dominated in the ruck and in every tackle on both sides of the game.
5) Some players worth commenting on:
Mason - just very average in A and poor in D
Herbert - tries more than Toa but is awfully slow and not the answer.
Madden- doesn’t look so good behind a pack without momentum.
Bunty- very average was expecting more
Pole- soft in D and really looked average today
Royce - needs to run onto the ball and get more involved for the short minutes he plays
Hope- absolutely not up for it. Was woeful.
Luai - just not doing enough to take control of games

Positives - players who played well were:
May, Seyfarth, KPP, Sione, Twal

Let's face it. Some people like Madden, some don't. I'd even venture to say that some have it in for Jock and can't wait to call him a reserve grader. He was great when paired with Douehi and the forwards were doing their job. He's playing in a different side now and the cohesion has gone out the window. Given the lack of go forward, I thought he did alright today.
I thought Jock had a shocker (and I’ve been calling for him to get another opportunity).

Down 20 in 14 mins the game plan goes out the window and Jocks strengths (of game management) become a little obsolete. He didn’t handle the occasion at all.

He played well when we were on the front foot earlier in the year. Be interesting to see what Benji does there.

if we are any good it will shortly turn around when the spine is back ,and if not its just the same old same old .How dare they give us a window of hope then throw it away in such an ugly fashion

Benji is picking the team, hope is hopeless. Slow delivery, I’d be picking our under 21 Haywood hooker who played well in the trial. I know it’s a gamble being so young but we don’t have much choice in my opinion. We are losing the ruck with his poor delivery!

The game starts with your pack going forward and at least holding their own in the ruck. No halfback is any good when your middles are dominated. Look at Hughes the last few months. Even Cleary last year when Penrith were struggling.
Madden was good when he had time and space and we had the opposition back peddling. He doesn’t have the ability to make something out of nothing.

Yeah I know it makes it easier on halves when your forwards lay a platform but Jock’s catch, pass and kick was off today, I’m sure he’d say the same.
