LIVE GAME Round 16 v Dolphins

Live Game Discussion
Well said mate. You're generally supposed to support your club.
We don't have a club, we have a team.

If we were a club, we wouldnt have the NRL kicking off 3pm at Leichardt, with KOE Magpies and Jersey Flegg playing 15km away at Lidcombe Oval on the same day.

It would be a day at leichardt for the club and fans.

We aren't a true club.

I was at the game

Agree both sides were down on troops before the game started

Tigers lost two during the game

Luai (2) and madden were both hit after passing - no penalty - madden to the head bin

API caught the markers not square/off side 3-4 times no penalty

The phins pushed the envelope on the off side/wrestle and were rarely penalised

The tigers weren’t great but neither were the phins but got the ‘run of the green’
same as I saw it, I thought fonua looked like a beast live too, shame about his handling.

12000 is exactly what’s wrong with the joint, first time in ages we’re in contention for the finals and it’s half full, never been but on tv it always looks and sounds absolutely soul less and like an away game, one year against St George I was certain we were outnumbered by dragons fans
Out of interest what is the reason you have never been?

One of the significant challenges for us a club and for Benji as a coach is to make sure that Campbelltown is our fortress.

It’s no use ignoring the fact that our record is better at Leichhardt Oval. There’s a better atmosphere there and the players rise every time we’re there.

But it’s not our growth area.

I really don’t know how to fix it exactly apart from knowing that it’ll require a concerted, multifaceted effort to turn it around.

Tbh it would probably help if we didn’t play our state cup games out at a Lidcombe Oval, had Wests Tigers teams throughout all grades playing there regularly and stopped this ridiculous nonsense of playing in away jerseys at our home games because our board members are too pea-hearted to watch us play in orange.

Bringing Wests Macarthur back into the fold probably wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

Regardless it’s a conundrum we need to resolve if we ever want to make the finals let alone be successful in the long term.
I bloody hate the HBG influence on every aspect that they get their grubby hands on.. Flegg should have been at Campbelltown today and our reserve grade should be wests tigers .. Jesus, give the kids a pathway all the way.. make our merged club a super club.. the own goals they cause us are never ending,, Richo should still be our CEO, he was working through all of this and the pack of pea hearts shafted him

I actually think wing is Toa’s spot. Hes played pretty well. He doesn’t have blinding pace but I think defensively it makes his life a lot easier. Centre is not easy. That will be Averillos role next year.
I think playing next to Taylan makes starford aim up.. he assists him with defensive decisions mentally as well as Taylan aggression and attitude rub off an Toa and seems to encourage Toa to put himself on the line more and commit physically with his shoulder and body.. helps to as confidence imo

So we had 5 of our best out and they had 5 of their best out also. The difference is that what they ran out with and what they had on the bench has more class. I get it that some here are saying they were proud of the effort but we still got pumped and I didn't expect that fulltime scoreline. Anyway onto next week and looking forward to the return of AD and Twally..
They have trai fuller as their backup fullback...we have heath mason...nuff said.

I haven’t watched the tv replay but i thought we put in a decent shift against a good team. They scored a lot of tries from our errors and we just didn’t convert some of our half chances. Another game where we compete 95% of the time but basic defending and handling errors. Our right edge defence still looks porous.
Well said. They didn’t beat us, we lost that game with our errors and not taking our half chances . A few key calls , the luai no try , madden taken out , we actually played well

I lived in Syd when I was a little kid and that’s why I became a tigers fan but have lived in qld for ages so I can’t get too many tigers games but I love Leichhardt and try and get to some of them, nothing against ctown, but if I’m paying a couple hundred to go I’d rather go to Leichhardt

I’m surprised people are so upset by the game today. I thought we had a real dig. The biggest factor in the loss was clearly losing Madden and Herbert in the first half. It completely screwed our bench rotation with 2 of the 4 reserves needing to be backs (normally none would be backs). However, something nobody has commented on is if Gilbert was penalised for the hit on Madden that caused his HIA we would have been able to use a fifth reserve when Madden was ruled out (due to foul play). That not being the case, fatigue was always going to get us and it did. Fatigue is responsible for some of the late errors, no doubt. API’s pass to Lanyon that Lanyon dropped was a poor pass. API was gassed, he’d played so well. Dolphins scored off the next set and the game was gone.

Overall the stats were very even but we made 13 errors to their 10. Those 3 additional errors were crucial in the context of the game.

We are still 7-7. I can’t remember the last time we were 14 games in and didn’t have a losing record. Probably 2011? We are doing well all things considered.

If we can win 6 of our last 10 we should make the top 8. We have the dragons twice, the dogs, parra, and Penrith in the final round when they will likely rest their whole team. If we can win those five (not a guarantee) and jag one of the remaining five (knights, warriors, raiders, roosters, cowboys) we should be in business. Players back would help.
100% the no penalty on Gilbert cost us big time. Being able to make a free interchange and use the 5th player would've helped a lot.

The Gilbert tackle was 'high' in the interpretation of the game today, but I honestly wish more games were played the way today went.

No intent in that- just a head clash. If it went against the Tigers- half of us would be blowing up. In the same breath- the tackle from Seyfarth last week in cover wasn't a 'high' tackle either.

I thought the Ref did pretty good.

Losing Madden & Herbert was unfortunate & a continuation of how unlucky we have been with injury.

I thought Mason played ok in relief at #7, but again- typical of how the season goes, probably the right game to have Latu on the bench.

That's a pretty good team in the Dolphins.

I thought it was Sukkar's best game in 1st grade- ran hard & defended well.

On the flip side- the issue with playing Sione wide is he gets fewer involvements. Scored a couple of tries, but was pretty quiet in a game where we needed more from the guys that got on the field.

That was a tough game against a team that plays 110% regardless of who they put on the field. Thought we did pretty good & the score at the end didn't reflect the quality of the contest.

They didn’t beat us?
What an arrogant statement.
They were missing one of the hottest young halves in the comp, and 4 current SOO players who are all in top form. Despite that, they easily ran 6 tries past us at our home ground.
They certainly beat us.

People don’t get this they will blame injuries and accept another non finals year
The excuses have been flowing for nearly 2 months. We needed to win games like this where the opposition is weakened.
They were missing 4 in form Origin players and a young half who is mature way beyond his experience.
That is arguably more talent than we are missing.
Still banged out a lazy 6 tries….
