LIVE GAME Round 16 v Dolphins

Live Game Discussion
See enough to know you hold a massive grudge for whatever reason. At the end of the day the club has to do more if they want to engage. The 12000 there today had no bearing on the injuries and poor mistakes we had

They have to win games there …all the engagement in the world otherwise won’t help much …

The money is being spent on the ground …the long term plans have been made to play there, so it’s here to stay ,, … I think next year when Leichhardt is out of action we might have a breakthrough …

They are both trying hard and I’m a big fan of Sione, so I was happy to see him score 2 tries today, but we all know he’s a touch slow particularly in defence to be a genuine NRL quality edge back rower and I think we can say the same for Sukkar who I think has a better chance of future success as a prop.We have absolutely zero NRL quality edge back rowers outside of our injured pair and I honestly cannot see us beating the Dragons unless we fix it by recruiting prior to June 30.
Then we have the problem of very minimal speed, tackle break ability, genuine x-factor and defensive ability within our 2-5.
Players dropping the ball and crucial missed tackles is what lost us the game. You can not make these errors against a good side who has been doing well and winning the last 7 weeks. I thought Sukkar had a really good game and cemented his position at Second row. He should be playing left edge, not sure why he is on the right. They need to use him in attack. The ball just stops dead and does not get out to him and that side of the play. I thought Toa had a good game and got more involved. The game changed when we lost our 7. We seemed to lose all our composure and structure went out the window.

I bloody hate the HBG influence on every aspect that they get their grubby hands on.. Flegg should have been at Campbelltown today and our reserve grade should be wests tigers .. Jesus, give the kids a pathway all the way.. make our merged club a super club.. the own goals they cause us are never ending,, Richo should still be our CEO, he was working through all of this and the pack of pea hearts shafted him
Agree with you 100% but not sure how that will pan out if Herbert is out

Yeah the last 2 games at Campbelltown I went too the MC was boring as. That needs to improve for sure.
You guys aren’t blaming the MC for poor attendance are you? No excuses. Cheap tickets, beautiful day. The Knights game earlier in the year is the perfect example. Both teams were in good form & still couldn’t sell out. I have grave concerns for us next year, both on the field & off it if we play majority of games there. I really hope Campbelltown doesn’t get 8 games next year. They don’t deserve it. Before I get shot down as a Balmain v Wests thing, I grew up a Wests fan. I never walk into Campbelltown feeling like its home. Whenever I walk into Leichardt I not only feel it’s home but I have genuine belief we can beat whoever we play there. I have heard people say “the club has never embraced the area”. The club has invested more in the last 3 years into that area than they ever have into the inner west. What a shame we can’t give the funds for Campbelltowns upgrade to Leichardt. I always thought if the club focused the ticket pricing towards families they would sell it out. Well the club did & they still didn’t come.

I’ll always admire the way Richo identified this as an issue immediately and tried to address it through the strategic plan and establishing an office in Campbelltown.

He genuinely wanted to engage with the south west community and fans.

We need an established identity through all grades too so completely agree with you on that.

No of course we aren’t blaming the MC for the poor attendance, but it is still an issue that does need fixing in itself. When I’ve got to Leichhardt the MC does a better job there than at Campbelltown. I hope it’ll be fixed eventually but no I am not blaming the MC for the crowd attendance.

I’m a die hard Magpie and been a member for years. Ever since Wests Ashfield was created we have never seen success. Do I exclude 2005?
Hard to say, I don’t count 2005 as a victory for Magpies or for Balmain I count as a win for the Wests Tigers. But I can agree that Wests Ashfield have severely mismanaged the Wests Tigers both financially and professionally.

They didn’t beat us?
What an arrogant statement.
They were missing one of the hottest young halves in the comp, and 4 current SOO players who are all in top form. Despite that, they easily ran 6 tries past us at our home ground.
They certainly beat us.
The forward pass no try was pretty bullshit though

Have no dramas with the Madden HIA but the interpretation’s of previous incidents lead a lot of people in thinking that it’s the wrong call.
Anyways it was 18-16 to the dolphins with 15 minutes to go and we let them run away with it, was a very disappointing end

How about we try something different at Campbelltown, have it promoted properly, how about food stalls, markets. Have seen in places like Huddersfield Giants, Calcio Lecco, where they promote and other activities on game they get the same fans turning up on a consistent basis.

When the great man Tommy was at the Magpies he would visit town centers, schools, local radio stations, he would encourage people to come out and see his team play.

Hypothetically, say we never played at Campbelltown again, but we were able to add 2 more wins a season. Would you take the wins or prefer to persist at Campbelltown?
Hard question and it would depend if they stayed in Sydney. Would be very hard to support if they ever moved interstate but I Love rugby league and hate every other team. A guaranteed extra two wins a season might not be enough most seasons for us to even make the finals so I’ll stick with trying to win a comp with playing at least half our games at Campbelltown

One of the significant challenges for us a club and for Benji as a coach is to make sure that Campbelltown is our fortress.

It’s no use ignoring the fact that our record is better at Leichhardt Oval. There’s a better atmosphere there and the players rise every time we’re there.

But it’s not our growth area.

I really don’t know how to fix it exactly apart from knowing that it’ll require a concerted, multifaceted effort to turn it around.

Tbh it would probably help if we didn’t play our state cup games out at a Lidcombe Oval, had Wests Tigers teams throughout all grades playing there regularly and stopped this ridiculous nonsense of playing in away jerseys at our home games because our board members are too pea-hearted to watch us play in orange.

Bringing Wests Macarthur back into the fold probably wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

Regardless it’s a conundrum we need to resolve if we ever want to make the finals let alone be successful in the long term.
You talk to much sense mate.

Campbelltown is not just Campbelltown, but the entire growth areas of the Southwest including Camden, Narellan, Oran Park. We know how many good young footballers come from Camden. I'm from the Balmain side of the JV, but the importance of the Southwest growth areas for WTs (and for the NRL) cannot be underestimated. Not playing games at Campbeltown would be one hell of a strategic mistake which I'm sure WTs know. I want all boys and girls in the SW to aspire to playing with WTs.

The Ctown bashing is hardly worth acknowledging at this point. Yea, the record sucks, but whose fault is it? And how do you remedy it? The club is all in on the ground now it’s going to be upgraded. And with LO out of commission for the next little while, Ctown is the number one ground in town. If you don’t like it, stock up on the tissues.

was silent at times
Thats not exclusive to one ground....it was silent at LO when Kini ran riot last week...it was silent last year v Cowboys when they came home over the top of us.

I dunno what the answer is...the numbers dont lie but i sometimes wonder if the players themselves dont feed into this...they all.go on about how great LO is and yeh theyre right...but are they subconsiously feeding into the "we cant win at CSS" narrative by doing this...are they psyching themselves out of it?
Idiot MC yesterday putting Twal in a tricky spot asking whats his favourite ground...the constant "competition" between LO and CSS isnt good.

One home.ground.is a.thing ive banged on about for years i wish they just bit the bullet from day dot and chose one...but then the juniors thing comes up...its not that simple

Its two very very different vibes at either ground....i have.never lived in either location but spent a lot of time at LO as a kid at mid week games.
Was involved in Balmain jnrs for a decade or more...i have no connection to Cambo
Theres been player turnover..different coaching staff admin the lot over 26 years and little changes...tho in '05, '10 & '11 we did win 75% there...so its not an impossibilty...the years weve been succesful there are the years weve been succesful everywhere be it LO..Teslstra..Jade..SFS etc. Seems to me if we are good enough we win all over the place...like Melb Bris Penrith etc...its just our snapshot of being good...is very small

I would hope with more games there next year the success rate rises too..but who knows. Weve seen slight improvements each of the last few years under Benji.
I go to LO and CSS...i dont really like Commbank...Accor has its issues...i dunno how.many times we battled friday night peak hour traffic in 2010 and 2011 getting into the SFS from our.place out in the Parra district ...but it was worth it because we were winning.

We saw a.lot of good talent in reggies yesterday and that reminded me.of the Fultons Gibbs' Farahs Hodgos Harrisons etc...i think the club is on the right path with the current s/w focus...its just so slow as is everything with us.
But yeah yesterdays turnout disappointing...maybe we have to accept thats our max.out there.

Yeah way too quiet for my liking. There were a lot of families on the hill. Most of the noise and atmosphere comes from the members sitting in the Alf Duguid stand.
The MC and rock concert between every play stifles the crowd in my opinion as well
Please punt the MC. So full of himself. At our last game at Commbank, he actually sang a song. We don't need him or the noise between plays.

The "upgrades" to both are a bit of a joke imo..pigs and lippy an all that
