LIVE GAME Round 16 vs. Storm

Live Game Discussion
Back to back sooons. No signings coming. 1 Jr of note in the “generational crop”. Coached by a guy who is at least a decade out of touch and the future holds a coach who’s never coached. Huge positional holes across the whole team. Shuffling deck chairs of player managers/coaches/journeyman players and there’s one constant. He makes choices some people don’t like and he dgaf.
what the fk does dgaf mean

Very disappointing, the whole game tiger's kept kicking towards warbricks wing, no one had enough brains to bombard Jennings wing, that's very sad, final result warbrick 4 tries

That is the typical stupidity that Sheens does, for 3 long torturous years he tried to turn Morris into a half back and completely refused to admit it was a dumb idea.

We are the reigning wooden spooners and are now in a position to almost certainly retain it for a 2nd year in a row and possibly even go on a spoon winning streak for years to come.

There is however, one thing that we can be proud of and that cannot be denied, and that is that with more than half the season gone we have achieved and still hold the highest winning margin in the NRL for the current season.

There is one thing that concerns me about that and that is if a team goes on to better our winning margin of 48 points it will probably occur when they play us.

It’ll be interesting to do an analysis of how the hell that win happened.
No signs of it coming beforehand or after…for either side really.

The stars and the moons aligned for that to happen, and if it's anything like the coming of Haley's Comet we should see a repeat around 2061.

Unfortunately, if that is the case, I won't be around to see it and I'm guessing that many on this forum won't be either.

It goes to show that depth isn't our strength, I have been critical of the bench every week, its small with 2 backs and small forwards with no impact, that doesn't work. In hindsight I would rather Hastings in the halves, Wakeham doesn't really offer much. Another season and no Finals, its getting beyond a joke.

I just rewatched the game without the emotion of dealing with it live.

Defence. We were OK in the middle but struggled on the edges. We were stripped for numbers easily on a few of occasions; however, this is something that can be addressed after the video session. It is a relatively easy fix with a new combination and we have the bye week to settle it in before we face the Cows again. There was a bit of luck in a couple of Melbourne's tries from kicks but they took the ball to the line and kicked through it so the luck came their way. We need to do some work on our cover defence (scramble) and kick defusion as well - but that aspect is about attitude and can be coached and fixed.

Attack. I remain concerned about this aspect of our game, although our left edge did make several in roads and we were able to work over big Nelson on a few occasions. Our problem remains our halves.

Wakeham. He tries hard but just doesn't have it. He does not dig into the line far enough.

With ball in hand he is passing too early and as a result doesn't committing the inside defence. The opposition defence can drop off and carry on with the play as he poses no threat. He has to dig into the line a little deeper before distributing the ball - it is his only play because he is so slow. He will not break the line open with his footwork or his speed so he has to take the line on and then pass or distribute very early for a set play. I have only seen him dig into the line a few times this year so unless they can develop this in him over the next week or so he should be shoveled back in to Reggies and Smith given an opportunity.

On the kicking front it is a similar issue in his short game. If he kicked at the line instead of before it his grubbers/chips into the in goal would be significantly more effective. His deeper kicks just aren't directed well. He places them accurately but doesn't have the height to get our players into the contest (although our outside backs really don't attack the ball when it goes up etiher). We very rarely compete for the ball from our own kicks - this is something that can be coached.

Star. He filled a gap on the weekend but is not at FG level in that position. Laurie or potentially Reilly need to have a crack as having Star at 5/8 weakens our centres and is a weak link in defence that was exploited well by Melbourne. His attack at 5/8 was one dimensional and although his strength poses a threat his passing game and footwork don't. Toa is a centre and needs to play there.
