LIVE GAME Round 18 v Roosters live game discussion

Live Game Discussion
Even as an Assistant, he wasn’t actually coaching. Then of course, his teacher is considered to be so incompetent he gets summarily sacked.

We get the spoon on top of that.

Kind of like being taught how to build a submersible from Stockton Rush, how to win an election from Peter Dutton and so forth.

And he’s appointed on the matey, not on merit.

And the reason that happens is because we don’t have any mechanisms to make the club accountable, other than the mateys lounge.

Benjis lack of understanding of the basics of coaching has inevitably resulted in very poor outcomes.

He can be better deployed elsewhere in the club such as in a recruitment or marketing role.

But I expect we will continue to see him continue in the role for many years due to the Mates Act which Richo endorses.

After all the media interviews recently, I concluded last night that so long as Richo is here, so is Benji.

So we may have another 3 years of this underperformance on the field.

With that out of the way, I suppose the interest shifts to the women’s side and all the grounds drama. Anything but actual results.

And the redeployment of Benji into areas where he has shown more ability is a central part of @Tucker’s thesis.

When Benji finished his footy career he found roles in the media etc but then realised that climbing trees and other attention seeking engagements didnt furfil his competitive streak and need for respect.

He morphed from a comedy clown figure, to a very serious coach.
Quite a swing in personas.

Some unkind people, they argue he’s arrogant, but he’s not. But he relishes the importance and stature the coaching position gives him. It gives his life a more tangible meaning.

He’s playing the role of a coach, I think he has a psychological need for being liked and respected.

And as to the latter, I think it might arise from his deep down feelings of inadequacy and insecurity.

As are the trappings of wealth and the lifestyle he aspires to privately.

So Benji will continue to court the public limelight long after his tenure with us is a distant memory.

To perform and to be relevant. Benji could be unhappy with himself.

I’m not sure about anyone else, but he seems very insecure at press conferences.

I’m not being critical, just presenting who I think he is, being an important figure in our current era.

This is funny. So he wasn’t an assistant doing an apprenticeship for the first year?
Does that suit the no prior experience agenda.
If he was actually our coach and Sheens was just running the water in the 23 season then he has done even better given those circumstances.
How? He came last that year as well.
The revisionist history surrounding a Benji is embarrassing.

the media are so biased it shits me, all I have heard this week on radio is how the roosters lost to us cause they had 8 players missing. Not a single mention that we were missing our entire season starting spine. No Bula, no Api, no Luai and no Galvin.

Let them continue with, and even embellish that narrative. As long as everyone believes we are hopeless also-rans, we will continue to be underestimated and will sneak in under the radar.
As soon as we break out and get some continuity with our wins the media will jump on saying they predicted it all along.
Think of what the media writes as a brown smear on toilet paper and you're almost there.

It’s all part of a concerted effort by club honchos to validate and justify poor decision making.

People conveniently forget that he was originally imposed upon us by Lee and Co.

So as long as Benji is installed, it’s a somewhat inconsistent position to follow the current matey and sing its praises, but have the temerity to criticise the old matey.

It’s the same mistake.

But people want to believe he can coach. I even think he doubts he can coach.

Hannay is looking for a post. Probably up your way. I think Des would be the go myself.
