We more than match them in the forwards but the backs and the bench are way less competitve. Need to keep it tight , slow and kick into touch a lot, no repeats of Gagai and Best bringing it back like last game they negated nearly every kick. Hard to see a win but hoping.
Need at least 2 centres, 2 halves and 2 solid bench players for next year just to compete with teams 7 through 14.
Daunting prospect.

A little more hopeful.

2 halves 1 centre would probably do. Sheens probably will unearth a couple of decent guys on the bench.

Just hope whoever the halves are will engage the line. That's a big part of what's missing. We make ground but the defence conserves energy because they're not stressed with decision making.

Even Smith last week with his mixed game caused Cronulla a few issues taking on the line.

Persisting with Will Smith and Wakeham means both half's really slow .
You can't win an NRL game with two slow playmakers .
Laurie for all his faults does have some speed

Was I seeing something that wasn’t there when Laurie played against the cowboys, I thought he played pretty well in a beaten side he made heaps of tackles and tried hard in attack, I think with api back he should be in the side

A sad fact is that none of the backs in our top 30 would enhance the Newcastle backline, they are not even a top 10 side.
Something seriously wrong in how we get players.
Time to give the player managers notice that we won't be manipulated, put a fair value on a player and that's it no being used to up another club's bid or worse get into a bidding war, a straight take it or leave it.
If we're going to run last at least have some standards and dignity.
