LIVE GAME Round 27 v Panthers

Live Game Discussion
I sat behind the posts and watched him a few times at the Knights (after he’d signed with us) and he was so good at the check and release.

Your last sentence answers the question. That mental side, the “feel” for the game, the timing and spatial awareness - you either have it or you don’t imo. Very hard to teach.

Man thats the term i have been searching for...check and release. We dont do it

Imagine what a quality coach could do with this group at full strength? Benji will fumble around with AD at lock or in the halves. Jock, Latu and Javon won't be given the keys. Our star edge backrowers will flounder.
A good coach comes in and immediately plays to our strengths. He picks halves that play straight and create space for Sam, KPP and Bula.
. He teaches the edges to hold and bounce off when defending, he teaches us to play through teams rather than around.

Yeah no doubt Benji has room for improvemnet but is the technical side of in game the most important thing for the main coach? No I don't think so, I think its to have the players hungry to play and respect for what he says?

The technical side of the game is the 'easy' part of running the team, there are hundreds of people who can do this, the support in the background. The hard part is running the club.

Bennett doesn't spend his time on the technical part of the game, its the man managment and the running of the whole club is what he's good at........and you could argue that Benji does a pretty good job of this?

Final comment of the day; we learnt a lot going forward, Demps nailed it re the future !!
We just need coaches that can direct our players, so total clean out , and get all our injured players back to start next season. I’d like to see us have a crack at Tyrell Sloan; we need serious speed out wide, non existent now; the bloke is having second thoughts about Super League. Time to be pro-active in the market and re-sign Madden and Latu, in 40 minutes they’ve shown what a difference they can make as a combo, with Javon Andrews getting time in 1st grade also.
I did see some green shoots in the 2nd half for sure!!

I agree with this, i guess the question is does Benji allow others to do that? Seems like he takes over everything and that is the issue we have.

We can all take a breath now the season is over. At least we didn’t give up on this game and get walloped like we have in the past. Felt like we played better on the second with Luai off the field. Glad all the noise will go away now and we can make an honest judgement on the Romey era. From what I saw today Latu gives a lot in attack and spending the pre season in the halves without being second fiddle will make up for the time he should have been played this year when he was fit and wasn’t. I think with KPP and Taylan back next year and the signings we have made there is enough to look forward to in 2027 to convince me to renew my membership. Just keep AD out of the halves please!

Maybe, its Benji who puts the side together and he has struggled there, Jerome was a distaster but everyone on here thought it was the right move.

Although he's on a tighter budget then most in relation to player recruitment.

But I think ha has handled the younger players well, considering the challengers.

I honestly think the players want to have a real go under Benji and we hope he'll be better for the run

I’m a fan of Jock don’t get me wrong but he is a back-up halfback. If he is our 1st choice hb next season, we are settling for minimal improvement.

Yes we look good when he digs deep into the line & releases Latu or Bula but his attacking kick game, running game & defence is not NRL top 8 standard. Sorry the truth.

Madden is great value & provides value but we need a better similar style half, maybe why we have been linked to O’Sullivan.

Chunk, do you think we improved this year with the better roster? If not, why nolt? Don't blame injuries. Every team has them.

Rubbish to all of this. You have to have a hand in it all.
