I honestly dont think it will take too many weeks before newsfilth/nine start to complain about blowouts in games and they put pressure on the NRL to "adjust" refereeing so the games are closer citing making the game a better spectacle.
Being cynical and suspicious is my normal nature.

Could definately happen as I am a little concerned about how a team turns momentum once it starts going the other way, there is no way to slow the game down to try and regain control.

Change to the old Super League system of the scorer kicking off, to halt the run of possessions. A long held bugbear of mine is dominant teams maintaining the ball, especially so in unbalanced junior competitions and a risky short kick off is the only and poor alternative to halt it.

Vlandys wants more tries and more attacking football in the game however If there are too many blowout scores under these new rules the NRL will be looking at ways to even the contest. The scorer kicking off would definitely balance things out.

You can't know that because you don't know what impact the new rules had on their performance, their big forwards were struggling with the pace the whole game. The first Parra try was because they were run off their feet.

Too small a sample size to really know what effect it’ll have. Gotta give it a few weeks but it looked pretty good in the first game back

Yeah mate, I'm not complaining, I actually really enjoyed the game. I haven't enjoyed a non Tigers game for a long long time.

How good is footy being back. Didn’t know I could enjoy watching eels win - helped that I tipped them and they beat broncos ? can’t wait for our game tomorrow.

Me too, I really help this new style works for us.

The fact that Junior Paulo played 60 minutes straight shows that players can keep up. The Broncos shot themselves in the food with handling errors early on which were then compounded by a few penalties.
The stats show exactly why the Broncos ran out of puff in the end - 6 penalties to 1. The handling errors were surprisingly even.I think Melbourne will actually struggle.

I enjoyed the new rules and 6 to go - I can't remember seeing any block plays and the adlib, play as you see it football was outstanding and what people have been crying out for. There will continue to be blow outs as long as teams continue to push the refs. They will soon learn as the Broncos did that it won't work. Welcome back Rugby League

Junior Paulo would not have lasted 15 minutes if the possesion was as heavily weighted in the donkeys favour.Having a monopoly of the ball reduces a players workload considerably which is why he could put in longer minutes. As he usually does Sutton refereed one team only, he was as poor as ever.

im worried about Tiges, we have gone with a big pack now and I believe you have to be a very mobile pack now with new rules, i hope the Leluia boys got fit during break as i am worried about them with this speed

I have posted this for a few weeks ... things have changed the days of bash and barge are over . Fitness and forwards with large motors are the go no matter how big they are .
After this weekend the penny will drop , how good was it to see one ref on the park the way it should be . The new rule is ok but there needs to be consistency as a game could really get away very quickly if not !
When the lower interchange comes in next season our game is going to be a real winner !
I hope Madge can change the way he coaches if not he will not be around long his preferred game is dead and buried .

I'm hoping the bench in particular was chosen with this outcome in mind.

. At least fitness wise we should be alright. Brooks and Benji have shown how well they do with a bit of space in front of them and our forwards are good at getting quick play the balls so hopefully that means lots of 6 again calls for us

Seems like he’s already trying to change judging by that bench plus putting Twal at lock.

Broncos looked terrible, they barely tested the eels. New rules worked well for now hopefully that favours us, interested to see how Melbourne take advantage of it.

They will be lucky to get the ball the way they wrestle through a game.

As a spectator watching the game last night, there were a few 6 again calls that just lost me
I have always been able to call a foul play or penalty before the referee blew his whistle
But not last night
I hope the refs don't get to pedantic with these calls
The contest seemed a little lopsided last night
The 6 again calls appeared to gas the defending team
Maybe that's the idea
Maybe the referee should call the players name or number so we know who committed the offense otherwise we are left guessing
Just my opinion off course

The ref is going to have a big influence on results. The six again call will control who gets the momentum. I just get scared think the damage a bloke like Klien could do with his new power

I wasn't very impressed with the refereeing last night. I didn't find it consistent for both teams. Eels got their first '6 again' within 3 minutes of the game starting, and I didn't think the Broncos were afforded as much latitude as the Eels were to get off the tackled player. I'll wait and see how it goes though, I suspect my intense dislike for the Eels probably biased me.

Vossy raised an interesting point, a bit pedantic, but one that needs addressing. When the ball goes dead in goal, and the team now gets a 7 tackle set, when the first tackle is then made (usually ' tackle 0') and the defender holds them down for too long and the call is '6 again', does the attacking team lose a tackle?

It was a typical Sutton refereeing effort.Only police 1 team as it makes it easier for him to control the game, last night the donkeys got the short end of the stick

Perhaps I was seeing what I wanted to see with how the game flowed and officiated? The jury is still out.
I know how the ebbs and flows of possession work. Paulo had made 11 hitups and 16 tackles at halftime so hardly seagulling on the wing taking a breather. He was really impressive.

Parra got the momentum early with some favourable six again calls, eventually they scored. Siebold may have been right, with Parra within 10 metres , cause Parra line speed was unbelievable, its hard to tell watching it on TV. Still the Broncos somehow bombed two tries, and may have led at half time. Which would have been miraculous considering the possession they had. No way Paulo would have lasted 15 minutes had he been playing for Broncos.

I thought it was interesting when Voss asked the other commentators about the single ref and I had the same realization as they did. I hadn't noticed which is great.

Referees certainly have a lot of control over the games momentum now. Eels got a few early calls their way and it helped them out big time but I guess that’s what will help stop the wrestle. Issue is when you get a crappy ref like Perenara who ALWAYS goes against Tigers we will be screwed. We barely win a game with that bloke in charge with the old rules let alone the new ones.

No.... Because the next tackle would be tackle one anyway as it would be with 6 again

Funny... We're usually all complaining about broncs at suncorp getting everything their way

We’ll have to wait and see how other refs handle things. To be honest though I didn’t even notice the ref last night and I haven’t done that in years. That’s a good thing. Might feel differently during a Wests Tigers Match.

It is the refereeing that will determine whether this six again rule works imo.

Sutton definitely favored Parramatta last night, especially early. They will have to be watched astutely as they can return this to "The greatest game of all" OR they can turn it into an absolute "DUD"

Perenara, Klein, Badger, Cummins, Atkins and Sutton will especially need to get their "Fairness Metre" checked over the next few weeks. The others we do not know enough about.

Let's hope the rules work the way they were implemented to work.

Kotoni Staggs will miss one week for Gr 2 careless high tackle with early plea. Alex Glenn facing 3-4 weeks out with leg laceration.
