LIVE GAME Round 3 vs. Bulldogs

Live Game Discussion
No one seems to have mentioned it so far in among all of the Brooks/Douehi chat - Joe O was non existent today. I'll watch the replay to see what he actually did, but he seemed like a wasted bench spot today. You either are a massive metre gainer, a ball player to open up the backline or can tackle everything in sight. Joe offers none of these atm. Happy to be proven wrong. Is he still injured?

He also missed 6 tackles including 4 in almost 4 efforts. For me it's the lack of composure, direction and leadership from the bloke when playing 7. Those are the most important criteria for the halfback. When the pressure is on Luke he folds

When Wakeham came on and played 7 Brooks looked ok as he doesn't have to think, he's a capable player when he's in that 5/8 secondary role. (Better than AD there) he's just a liability at 7 because we instantly become rudderless
Correct.

Brooks played better when Wakeham came on but why does a $900-1mil halfback need a $200k reserve grade half to come on and steer the ship?

Whether it’s the club’s fault for giving him such a big role in the side’s playmaking for so long can be argued, but he is a terrible halfback.

Wakeham coming in and straightening the attack had even Brooks running direct. Hard to argue, but cannot deny he had changed the side simply through playing goalpost to goalpost. Had turned the attack a different style.

Wakeham taking over and having Doueihi out of the halves freed the side up. Even Naden and Tupou saw some early ball. Another game against a so-so opponent missed through execution and direction from the spine.

It has to be the last we see a Brooks/Doueihi combination.

Great effort from Bateman in the tough conditions.

Clear and obvious changes have to be made for Friday.

Brooks cannot be selected at 7 ever again…I think we are all in agreement there.
He also cannot be selected at 6 as his ballplaying is extremely sub standard.
I’d have him at centre personally, with zero license to kick the ball.
Doueihi back to KOE Cup and I doubt we’ll see him again barring injury.
Exactly right. Put Brooksy through a gap and he's off. Could probably defend well enough out there. Just point him in the right direction and tell him to run.

Doueihi on the other hand...

Fair - his passing at the moment is generally off. He only kick it dead once and got caught once if I am not mistaken.

Did his involvement in the three second half tries make you feel any different about his performance overall?
His involvement wasn’t as a halfback.
It was as a free running player which we’ll get with him as a centre.
As a halfback, he was 1/10
As a player he was maybe a 4. It’s the same problem with him week after week, year after year. Total failure at 7 yet does some good individual things in broken play such as pick up a ball off the ground and scoot 50. He is a fraud in the halves.

Just watched the press conference. When Sheens was asked about Noffa he didn’t want to comment on it. That could be the end of Noffa. Hopefully so!
Watched it for this bit. Sounds like he is gone, but if Sheens picks him next week after refusing to answer questions he is as cooked as we think he is, or we will know the sabotage for revenge is real!

Doueihi is not a 6 or 1 - He's a 3, 4 or 14.

Staines is not the solution at 1, but he's the best we have ATM.

With our current squad, Brooks is a 6 until something better comes along.

I thought the 2nd stint for Klem and Stef was the best they've played YTD. They tucked the ball and got over the advantage line.

Wakem showed in 20 odd minutes he's the best 7 we have. Straighten the attack, showed how to pass a ball with soft hands when engaging the defensive line.

But the fact that a 3rd string last minute signing in wakem is the best we have says a lot about our recruitment and development.

134 metres. Average of 13 metre per run. 29 tackles. All in 44 minutes. Huge plodder.

Only thing with Twal is we have to get someone else trailing Api. It's always Twal who pushes up when Api runs.
Twal goes well…. Just needs to be coached to time his runs a bit better,,, he has to do it all himself usually,,, get him running off some good passes and he’d be a star.. rarely misses a tackle, backs up and works hid backside off… and seems to want to win, week in week out!
