LIVE GAME Round 3 vs Dolphins

Live Game Discussion
He was playing at origin level for us. I don't accept he was mediocre for us and great for Parra.
Nah I'd say he played great for us for 1 year, wanted more money and left.

At Parra, he actually got to Origin, played a GF and got paid more. He did better for himself after leaving us like many others.

It was realy interesting to watch the game having read the live game thread first. I had in my mind Toa really stinking it up and us playing like the Tigers of old. I also thought Toa did a good job and is proving good service to Tito. He is not a worl beater, but injury free outside of some creative halves he is definitely serviceable.
Here's a good question for you Jolls as I trust your judgment:
Defence for the first 3 games has been pretty much rock solid and 2 "noted" soft defenders in T'oa and AD have been very good. What's the difference, systems, attitude, inside men working better as a unit...?
Maybe all of the above? Maybe they haven't been properly tested?

I think they are simply trusting the systems and executing them. Not always to perfection mind you, but things are developing. Two examples from last weekend were: the Dolphins first try, and the tackle from AD to snuff out a potential try scoring opportunity.

In both cases we were in the zone where we have been using an up and in approach to cut down time and space. This has it's disadvantages, as it can easily lead to a three on two/two on one if they get the ball away. This then requires the scramble to get across in cover - but they have time and space, plus momentum with them to drive the opposition into the sideline.

When the Phins scored their first try Taruva did not follow Toa up and was caught waving his arms about in no man,s land. Many incorrectly called Toa out for "rushing out of the line", but he had done his job - Taruva didn't. Taruva's failure to follow the system held up Bula, as he had to now cover for the potential inside play . This left him without the time, space or momentum to use the sideline to deal with the threat.

In ADs case he did the classic up and in and was he was able snuff the play out. If the play was to get past him there was cover available, with time, space and momentum, to deal with it. This demonstrated not only an improvement in AD's ability, but also the improvement of the defensive system in general.

The same can be said for our slide defence and our pressure defence. Our line speed has improved but we still make effort area errors. May failing to shut the gate gave Nikorima space for one of the 4 pointers up the middle.

So despite some execution errors we are definitely on the improve and from a systems approach - but I don't think we have changed much from last year except attitude, and the quality of some of the players. AD is no longer rushing out of the line - we are starting to trust each other and they undersnd that effort is working.

My opinion, as an observer only. I don't have any insight into the training or the team as I live in a rural area and get my info from watching the game a couple of times.
